Great small city but close enough to the big one.

| cow town - 7/9/2008
Fort Worth is known as cow town, and is proud of it's heritage. In spite of the knickname, there is plenty of non-cowboy culture as well. There are good art museums, an excellent zoo, a currently being renovated science and history museum and a great botanical garden.

| Misplaced Midwesterner - 7/5/2008
It's HOT here! I miss the snow and the seasons. Culturally, Fort Worth is a good fit for most midwesterners, I think. It's pretty "real", kind of conservative, and the home prices can't be beat. Fabulous for carnivores! Keep an ice scraper and a heavy jacket handy, but ditch the parka and shovel.
Be sure to have access to a swimming pool!

| Thinking about moving to Fort Worth - 1/23/2008
I am 28 year old black woman thinking about moving to Fort Worth Texas. I have been getting mixed reviews. I know that traffic and crime is just part of the city life and its no biggie for me. I want to know about the schools in Fort Worth, employment, recreation, and the cultural side of life in Fort Worth. Can someone please feel me in?

| Property taxes utility bills - 1/19/2008
Property taxes are too high, people here loose their homes because they can't afford the taxes. Open a news paper and see all the homes being auctioned at the court house steps. I purchased a home for 160,000 and was paying close to 4,800 in property taxes a year. H.O. insurance, 1200.00 ,car insurance really high a lot of dumb drivers there. Life threating storms:tornados, baseball size hail, black ice, high winds. Climate terrible hot, muggy, jungle heat only April,May,late October are decent. Electrical bills average 450.00 in summer your A/C comes on in May and doesn't stop till late October 24/7. Home apreciation non exsisting your lucky to get back what you paid for it and write off all the taxes you paid you'll wont see that money again. No thanks worst mistake I ever made. Only good thing I enjoyed was the T.C.U. football games that I miss (GO-FROGS) Las Cruces N.M. best place to live for the money.

| Public Transportation - 1/7/2008
Simply put: Fort Worth dosen't have public transportation other than an expensive novelty-type train (the tarantuala) between Fort Worth and Dallas and taxis.

| Taxes and cost of utilities - 10/26/2007
Fort Worth is a great city with a small town feel. Growing rapidly. Tax rate is higher than it has been and cost of electrical service is also higher. Service is de-regulated.

The summers are too long, too hot, too humid. Autumns are too short. Rain comes in buckets. BUT, the thunderstorms are awesome!

| The good and the bad - 9/9/2007
We moved to Fort Worth from San Diego, CA this summer. I'll tell you what's better and worse in my opinion. I know there are a lot of SoCal folks considering Fort Worth.
The summary: here it’s greener, more hamburger-only restaurants, less crowded, friendlier people, more telephone poles, hotter, less health food stores, bigger ants, more trains, triple the rain, most houses are brick, no ocean, many lakes, flatter (but somewhat hilly), more laid back, Target sells groceries, more butterflies, cows and ponies. And old ladies drive trucks. Fort Worth is fairly diverse with a mostly white, black and hispanic population.
Obviously, housing is cheaper. What's $500,000 in San Diego is no more than $150,000 in Fort Worth. Property tax rate is more than triple, so you may not be able to afford the mansion you think you can. But you'll be able to find a better home for the price any way. There seem to be more newer apartments. In SD $1000 gets you a no-frills one bedroom. In Fort Worth, $700 gets you that but with some extra frills such as covered parking, dishwasher, fireplace, etc.
People are definitely friendlier here. You can go to a store and ask for help without feeling like you're bothering the employee. They actually seem to like to do their job here. Neighbors say "hi" here... people start conversations, etc. It's friendlier.
It's not as busy. There's less traffic (at least on the highway we take all the time I-20) but from what I hear the traffic can be fairly bad elsewhere during rush hour. I don't know if it's worse than San Diego. What I know is in San Diego during rush hour EVERY highway is bad, but here that's not the case. People drive slower here as well (meaning there's not as much speeding) and drivers are more likely to let you in when you flip on the signal or need to merge. There really do not seem to be more pickups or SUVs than in San Diego but there are more commercial trucks.
It's greener. More rain (triple the rain) and it rains during summer. Summer is reallllllllly hot and more humid than San Diego. Many will consider this a bad point but we like it... it feels like being on vacation in Mexico... heat and rain.
Now the bad parts are (well, no beach) that there seems to be a lot of trash lying around. We notice stores don't always put trash cans in front which is not the case in San Diego. You can always find a trash can in SoCal. So, people leave their trash on the ground, including your neighbors. Another thing is th

| Ft Worth, the Secret Urban Oasis! - 8/14/2007
Living in Austin now, and after our recent visit to Ft Worth, am making plans to move there ASAP. Ft Worth IS everything you hear about Austin but at a reasonable cost, not the traffic and certainly not the pretentious attitudes of the citizenary.

| Fort Worth is way underrated... - 5/25/2007
I recently moved from the Northeast to Austin expecting it to be a Nirvana based on a lot of hype. Without being too critical, I've been tremendously disappointed. Truth is, I've visited Fort Worth many times for business and Fort Worth has the traits ascribed to Austin at half the cost, traffic, and twice the sophistication. I highly recommend Fort Worth for its really scenic neighborhoods, its great and affordable housing, its vibrant and sophisticated arts scene, and its growing nightlife and dining options for ADULTS. We're now looking north on I35 towards FW, assuming we can get out of Austin's insufferable traffic...

| Moved from Austin to Fort Worth and am very pleasa - 5/9/2007
I moved to Fort Worth from Austin a year ago for a job and had modest expectations. I have been very pleasantly suprised to find it is has become a lovely city with one of the best arts communities in the southwest, a lively Downtown (where I live), and tons of outdoor recreation (river hike/bike trail runs 50+ miles). Approximately 5000 people live Downtown now, which is the ideal place to live for younger (or older) single peeople. It is relatively expensive, however cheaper than Austin. Interestingly, Austin gets a lot of publicity for its quality of life (which it deserves), yet Fort Worth has many of the same characteristics people love about Austin - and is superior in many respects (better neighborhoods, better visual arts scene, better Downtown).
Since Fort Worth is growing so rapidly I suspect it won't be long before it gains a similar buzz as the one Austin has had for the last 10+ years.

| Foat Wuf Ah Luv Yew! Always a Great Place to Live - 3/24/2007
Friendly people, small town attitude, big city benefits without the aloofness of the neighboring BIG CITY. Great museums, great local sports venues, very reasonable cost of living and housing. The only town I have ever seen the cops actually direct traffic, to keep it moving, after a traffic accident. Still growing strong. Beautiful County Court House, dating to the 1800's. We do have some traffic issues at the usual going to and from work times. Hopefully the roads will be expanded soon without being the toll roads that the current politicians in office are clammoring for.

| Texas little secret - 3/17/2007
When we speak of cities, we speak of areas, not necessarily within the city limits. The Fort Worth area is a bit slower lifestyle, not as much traffic as Dallas, Houston and beautiful rolling hills.Small towns out of the suburbs of Fort Worth allow the joys of the country, but the convenience of the city. I recently visited Houston...my home area, and couldn't get out of town fast enough. I was from a small town about 35 miles out of Houston. Traffic was bumper to bumper to get any where. Back to the suburbs of Fort Worth, I can go most any where and not get into bumper to bumper traffic. :) Wonderful eating places, lots of churches, lots of healthy activities for children, and adults. Sports a low crime rate and wide open spaces.
