Quality of Life in Fort Worth - 1/9/2007

The quality of life in Fort Worth is what makes it so attractive to people in all walks of life. The schools in north Texas are excellent, the access to great health care, beautiful parks, shopping, restaurants and affordable housing all contribute to making Fort Worth a great place to live and raise a family.

Changing Climate - 12/29/2006

The changing climate in this city is making it no longer the "ideal" place to live. Allergies were always a problem in this area but with the warming trend of the past few years they have become even more pronounced. All amnisties of "Cowtown" - and they are many!!! - are no longer the deciding factor in living in the region as they have been in the past.

Jobs in Fort Worth - 12/11/2006

How difficult is it for a out of stater to find employment in fort worth? My husband and I are looking to move to the area as soon as I can find a job. My husband can transfer with his company, but before we can afford to move I need to have employment lined up. I am a college educated individual who has experience as an administrative assistant, business manager and editor. I am not really picky about the job - I just need to make at least 40,000 a year. If anyone has any advice or knows of companies that I should check out it would be much appreciated. We are really looking forward to the move. Thanks in advance for your help!

Fort Worth is not bad - 11/9/2006

Sad to hear someone works for the education system and hates it. Wow, what a horrible life that must be. I agree the public school system is not the best but yet, I think many public school systems are not great in this day and age. I have lived in fort worth most of my life. I have been to other states, California, Florida, Arkansas, and New Mexico. I think you have to take in consideration what you want. If you hate cold weather then this might be the place. But you may have to give up your fall. Texas doesnt have much of a fall. Cost of living is great, we have some great buys, and you can live in more home per square foot then you can in California or some other states.

to the SoCal person asking about Burleson, Granbur - 9/14/2006

I grew up in Burleson until HS then we moved to Granbury. I live in Las Vegas now, but am moving back to Fort Worth. Granbury is a great little community and it is growing fast. I know you are looking for a lower cost of living and Granbury offers that while also offering the opportunity to make money (RE investments). I would love to tell you more about Granbury... I am not sure how we can contact each other... but I would love to exchange some emails with you. I highly suggest you check out Granbury. I myself would move there, but my wife is a city girl and Ft. Worth is small enough for her! Eventually though I do hope to own a ranch out west of Granbury too!

The only people who love it never lived anywhere e - 9/14/2006

Well, if living in Korea, Europe, Las Vegas, Portland (OR), Savannah (GA), Kansas City, and North Carolina, don't count as "anywhere else", then perhaps you're right. Otherwise, you don't know JACK! You admit you have lived there you entire life, so go figure. If it is so bad, why not move? I thought like you UNTIL I lived elsewhere! After having been gone for over 20 years, I now realize how great a place Fort Worth is. I had forgotten how nice a place it is, how kind the people are and yes, how inexpensive it is compared to most other places in the USA (especially the Eastern and Western USA). Every place has it's pros and cons. If you think Texans love their gas-guzz'lin SUV's, then I suggest YOU are the one that has never lived any place else. I moved back to Ft. Worth from Vegas. That place is all about keep'n up with the Joneses. HUGE gas guzz'lin SUV's, H3 Hummers, S600 Mercedes, Land Rovers, BMW's, etc., etc., are every where! So please, if you're gonna throw something out there like that, be able to back it up! Ann, I suggest you try moving some place else so that you actually have a point of reference. Otherwise, your comments are baseless as you obviously have never LIVED and WORKED anywhere else other than the area you so deride. Hey, I get it, maybe you just love the place so much you are trying to dissuade others from moving there...

Response to Fort Worth Relocation - 8/26/2006

My husband and I were transfered to Fort Worth a little over a year ago. We have lived in the Fossil Creek area of Fort Worth which is in Haltom. It is a nice area which is one of the newer developments of Fort Worth next to a golf course. Alliance and Keller are also nice areas. Our son moved to Bedford, which is between Dallas and Fort Worth and it is a really nice area. It is like a small quiet town in the middle of two very busy cities. Really strange. If my husband didn't have to commute so far to work, we would consider living there. Oh, and the only thing I can say about living in Fort Worth is I hope you like hot, dry weather and only two seasons. The summer lasts forever and there is about two months of cool weather... Well, maybe I am exagerating a little, but not much.

The only people who love it never lived anywhere e - 8/21/2006

I was born in Dallas and have lived here most of my life (I'm 37). Stuck here because of my ex-husband's job and now I feel I need to stick around because of my aging parents and new husband's job. Here's the truth about this place: the only people who adore this hellhole are the ones who have never traveled outside of the state, or think that it's Utopia because they can get a McMansion for cheap. Everybody LOVES their big houses and their big SUVs here! It's viciously hot in the summer - that's April through September - with everything rapidly turning from green to brown as it dies off around July so it looks like a barren wasteland. If you like the outdoors or beautiful surroundings you'll especially find it depressing. No places to hike, no views to gaze upon, and the only water around (the lakes) are nasty, muddy places overrun with hillbillies on jetskis. Dry land isn't any better...I've traveled to many states and have never seen as much trash on the sides of the roads as I've seen here. And speaking of roads, everyone here seems to think they own it (especially the truck and SUV owners which is the majority). Every day I see people cut off, swerved around, honked at, flipped off, and worse. I guess it must make everyone edgy to have to drive an hour or more to get anywhere in this ever sprawling Metroplex. So much for hospitality, folks, it doesn't exist here. I'm sure my fellow Texans would hang me in the highest tree if they heard me bashing our "precious" state, but I figured all of you out there should hear the ugly truth. If all you're looking for is a big, cheap house and possibly a better job, then by all means come to Dallas/Fort Worth!

Relocation - 7/28/2006

I am considering relocating to the Fort Worth area from Southern California for reasons that I think everyone is already aware of(cost of living, home costs, etc.). I am specifically interested in some of the smaller towns southwest of Fort Worth like Crowley, Burleson, and Granbury. Can anyone give me their opinion on these places.

Great City - 6/22/2006

I moved here 9 years ago after being transferred by my job. I lived in Houston most of my life and it was so much nicer here. Less traffic, the humitity is so much lower and they actaully have snow once a year. The niightlife is great, has a fantastic downtown with a large population that lives downtown in lofts and apartments. Housing is cheap compared to most of the country. I don't know much about the Ft. Worth schools but we live in the White Settlement school district which is partly in West Ft. Worth and is supposed to be good. They have some excellent private schools.Being in what they call the metro-plex, Dallas, Arlington, Irving,Grand Prarie, etc, makes you part of a larger community with lots of resources.Freindly people as well.

Bad Public Schools - 6/8/2006

I would love to know how the people who posted about the great schools in Fort Worth come by their information. I have worked withing the FWISD, and had a child in the Fort Worth Public Schools, and it is a joke. I can count on one hand the number of educators whom I came in contact with in this school system, that were dedicated as educators, this includes principals. The rest were abusive, and did not as much teach as they tested and retested for the TAAS. I don't know how bad other school districts are, but from having been in the system through my job and my child's enrollment in the FWISD,I can say that the tax payer dollars could be better spent than on the salaries of the teacher's in the FWISD.
