Cost is unreasonable - 5/26/2007

The utilities have gone up 10% every year for the last three or four years! It's getting out of control.

Give Henderson a chance - 4/7/2007

I have lived in Henderson 30 years, raised 2 children here and could not be happier. The only thing that has dissapointed me is the fact that our valley utility companies need huge improvements. Nevada Power always has long lines and a parking lot to fit 8 cars, which really should only park 4, Southwest gas left a few years back as well as the phone company which made it harder for our seniors who don't get out or have internet access. For those who are bashing Henderson, we don't want you to join our wonderful community, go back to where your life was happier, cheaper and your weather was perfect and remember why you left that city to begin with!!

If you have roaches, spray! - 1/13/2007

I noticed that the 2 people bashing Henderson did not post their email address for return comments. This is typical with people trying to sabotage and run. For Anny and Joe’s information lets clear the air. If you want no traffic, clean air, no heat, no crime then may I suggest Allakaket, Alaska. I don’t believe you will find any of the above issues their. As for living in a populated city you may wish to avoid this as it seems not to be conducive with your expectations I life. As for those who wish to live around other people and are willing to adjust to the social constraints and problems in exchange for great services and lifestyle, the Henderson may very well be your place to live. TRAFFIC: When we speak of traffic in Henderson there are a lot of cars on the streets but everything you need is quite close to your home and does not require long commutes. Henderson is serviced by two major feeder routes out to the Las Vegas Valley and some great fast surface streets such as Russell Road to the airport. If you however work in Las Vegas in general you have crowded commute periods of 4:30 to 6:30PM but these are NOT Los .Angeles style traffic jambs! Over all the traffic in the valley is heavy but the roads are being upgraded at a fantastic rate in an effort to stay ahead of grid lock and the transportation commission is working hard with short term goals for some fantastic public transportation options. They have recently approved funding for a commuter road for Max (not me) Bus/trams. These roads will only be used by these hard-tire trains that will travel up to 60 mph and have preference over general traffic at all road crossings including stop light sensors to give them the green light as they approach an intersection. For people willing to use public transportation this should be a great congestion relief pill. AIR QUALITY: My fist thought about Joe’s comment about dirty air was to chuckle because in the same paragraph he was complaining about wind. Wind disperses smog. If your speaking of dust then yes wind does blow up the desert dust and with all the construction in Las Vegas there is more dust than if all construction was stopped. Clark County Air Quality has a dust abatement program for all construction sites. This includes posting a phone number on a sign at every construction site where blowing dust may be reported to the authorities for investigation and citation. Over all the contractors in the valley are willingly upholdi

It is by far the best place to live in the Las Vegas Valley. Henderson has its own municiple services which answer to its citizens. It has some of the best services in all of Southern Nevada. Re: Henderson Sucks... - 9/15/2006

I have family in Henderson and it's not that bad. I've visited weeks at a time and not once did I find it, "HECKA" windy, whatever that means. If your number one priority is growing a vegetable garden, the desert is obviously not a place to live. Keep your ten cats in the house. If you can stand the hot summers, it is a great place. Relatively speaking (I'm from Ventura, CA), the jobs are pletiful, schools are better, houses are cheaper and crime is tolerable. You could probably grow a nice garden in Portland, OR, but then again, it's "HECKA" rainy.

Flying Cockroaches, Heat, Gangs, Traffic, Dirty Ai - 7/23/2006

Home prices are so ridiculously high here because California real estate is even worse. That is incidentally the only reason people are moving here. We are building high rise apartments now because land is running out and no one can afford houses. This means traffic is getting worse -- it's already at a crawl most times of the day, and forget about rush hour. The air is so filthy I have to have to go to the doctor to get a sinus infection treated at least twice a year. Crime is going up, graffiti, shootings and burglaries especially in the wealthy enclaves of the town which are right next to the ghettos (it's so densely populated here that a slum is never more than a few miles away). There are cockroaches everywhere (except my house which glows a bright radioactive green color at night). Nevada schools are ranked last in the nation -- yep, Misssissippi outranks us-- the only reason I can even spell 'Mississippi' is because I was educated in other state. I don't have to tell you how hot it is here, it's a desert for Pete's sake, but I will tell you that since most of the city is new, there are absolutley NO shade trees anywhere, not in parking lots, not in parks, NOWHERE! The sun is always in your face. Half the year everyone has to stay inside all day long --just like Chicago in winter--how ironic. I am saving up and will be leaving here someday. So in conclusion, please ignore everything I just wrote and move here and continue to drive house prices up so I can sell mine and get the hell out!

Las Vegas Area - 5/11/2006

I moved to Las Vegas area a few months ago and it's alright. I'm originally from Orange County in California so this was a big change for me. First of all, if you're looking for a job, this is the place to go! My theory is, if you can pass a drug test and/or speak English, you're garaunteed a job. Rent is much cheaper out here than it is in California, so if that's the case, this is the place to be. On the othe hand, people out here drive like crap. They don't care if they hit you or you hit them, they only want to get where they are trying to go. Also, people are sometimes on the shady side, so be careful of who you invite to your home.

Only if you like cig smoke, crime and stupidity. - 4/26/2006

We have lived on the Las Vegas Valley for almost 6 yrs and I wouldn't recomend it. The only reason we haven't moved away is because I have not figured out where to go. People here are proud of criminal behavior, stupidity and immorality. There have been 7 child murders in the Las Vegas Valley in the first 7 weeks of this year. That should give you an idea of what it is like to live here. When they interviewed for a new superintendent for the school district the top contender for the job removed his name from consideration saying that the school board is dysfunctional. This was for a job that pays $300,000 and the man turned it down because the school board is a bunch of idiots. They send out notices to parents a week after Open House happens. I read somewhere that there are fewer college graduates and more high school dropouts here than any other metro area. My experience supports that. IMO at least 85% of all people here from Doctors to Mechanics are incompetent at their jobs. (This would be outside of casinos because I have no idea what goes on there) Politicians and celebroties go to CA for medical care because it is so bad here. Ripping people off is considered SOP for many businesses and people don't even get upset about it. If you smoke, gamble, get drunk, do drugs, commit criminal acts or engage in casual sex you will love it here but if you are a non-smoker and don't like being exposed to second hand smoke, have medical needs, are trying to raise intelligent, law abiding children, don't like being ripped-off I recomend you stay away.
