| Crime going up, police unsupported - 4/29/2006
Seems like a good idea, but with robbery and murder on the rise this will only lead to less policeman covering any given are of the city along with lots of money still needing to be spent to complete the merge. That's not counting the ever increasing tax money being spent on the football stadium that won't be done until 2007 & is already at least 2mil over budget. Don't know how this will work out.

| The worse, The bad, and the ugly... - 4/27/2006
I have lived here on and off for 41 years and I have never liked it-but i have family here so it's unavoidable. So my reason to NOT move here or get out include:
It's boring and conservative.
Weather sucks (drastic changes each season and not a good place to live if you have allergies-lots of tornados and severe storms in spring)
Pollution getting worse.
Snow removal is a joke as is the amount of potholes that get a fix (usually after a month or two of complaints)
Barely existing/struggling art community, NO film community (there is no longer even a film commission). Not enough culture!
Rude people (mostly transfers from other states) abound.
Mid western mentality.
Traffic has gotten 10 times worse. Driving recklessly at high speeds=too many accidents.
Only pretty-natural areas are down by the Hoosier National Forrest and they are mostly rednecks with trucks down there (who also drive recklessly at high speeds)
Schools system is terrible-public AND townships-no money seems to be spent on education and teachers pass kids just to pass. Non existing artistic educational outlets for kids. Limited after school programs.
The whole Colts scenario is infuriating as they seem to take over everything and get money that should go elsewhere (like education).
The 500 race supports appallingly classless bunch of alcoholics who take over the west side and downtown in May.
Crime is rising-impossible to listen to daily news without a major incident.
Nothing for teenagers to do here.
Crack houses abound in places you'd not expect or want them to be.
A lot of registered sex offenders in Indy (too many for my liking). Jails have been over crowded for years and people are released due to the overcrowding not because they should be released (repeat offenders included).
Public transport (bussing it the only choice) is pathetic. Outer lying areas have no service.
Need more???

| Indianapolis - 4/18/2006
City has close to 1 million residents but, feels like a small city. Indianapolis has done a lot to refurbish it's downtown over the last 15 years (great downtown). The city is very nice and the people are the same. The only major downsides are cold winters, hot/humid summers, and no hills/mountains.

| Terrible place to live-no opportunities anymore-po - 4/16/2006
Lived here for 39 years. The first 34 were good. Now, politicians have chaged all of that. The brain drain is worse and I plan to be one of those draining soon. I have a college degree and a child. Neither are welcome in this state. Plus, it is getting more polluted and the climate is becoming terrible (never seen this many tornadoes before). Leaving because there is nothing left here for me or my child. It's sad. Never thought I would feel this way.

| Lack of Culture & Recreation - 4/13/2006
Natives of Indiana are very isolated. Many have never left the state.

| Also leaving here - 4/13/2006
The economy is bad and not getting better, as said before education is a farce here, and anyone who is qualified leaves the state for better (or is that only) opportunities. I have already left Indianapolis and will soon be gone as well from the state, for warmer and more opportune climates.

| MOVE OUT NOW - 3/27/2006
Indy sucks! The economy is horrible! A college graduate is offered NOTHING in this city. Education takes the cake. The public school system is sad. Government is constantly cutting education to build something! Therefore, our (future) children are graduating w/no little or no direction. LEAVING SOON!!!

| Indy has potential - 3/18/2006
Indy is ok, downtown has actually become very pretty and there is lots to do. There is a wonderful canal walk, interesting museums and a beautiful zoo. The restaurants in the city center are getting better and during summer you can walk around and relax in street cafés. Health care for most employed people is fine and you can find enough different groceries to satisfy most people with diverse backgrounds. Unfortunately, Indianapolis still suffers from heavy gun crime, pollution and urban sprawl. There is no acceptable public transportation and the closest international airport is ORD, about 3 1/2h north. The climate is not all that bad. The snow-less winters are a little boring and the summers are very humid but spring and fall are nice and comfortable. The countryside is fairly unspectatcular but will help you if you want to buy a house - real estate prices in Indy are relatively low. While there are safer, cleaner and prettier places in the world, you can certainly be happy in Indianapolis and lead a good life.

| I Agree - 3/15/2006
I agree with Tikil. I lived there for 14 yrs. and every time I turned around I was getting a cold, and I never had sinus problems until I moved there. My kid was constantly having problems with colds, allergies, etc. And the weather is so screwed up! There is a saying in Indiana, "If you don't like the weather wait 10 mins. it'll change." Soooo true. One day 60 degs. the next 20! It's not a horrible place, but I've been to better.

| Gotta be the most boring city in the US!! - 3/13/2006
Way before I was born, my mother and a few of her siblings had a choice on where to move after they graduated from high school in rural Arkansas...Indianapolis or Chicago. In my opinion, neither city would have been my choice but who knows what it was like in rural Arkansas back in the late 60s, so of course, my mother and family chose Indianapolis. If I could have channeled my pre-birth thoughts to her thoughts, I would have recommended another city--any other city than Indianapolis. This is one of the most boring, if not the most boring, city in the country! Even my 13-year-old complains constantly about there not being enough to do, so you know if a child is complaning on how boring a city is, then it really must be! I am currently in the process of trying to move somewhere with a much better and more stable climate than Indy. The weather changes as fast as a person can blink! It may be 70 degrees at 9am but then it can drop to 40 around 1pm! That's why there are so many sick adults and children here! Every time my children think that they're over their colds and sniffles, another weird weather system comes in and the cold sets back in. I would advise anyone not to move here!!!

Getting better downtown--more things to do. Local politics and attitudes can be oppressive and silly.
