Affordable City - 12/8/2006

Louisville housing is affordable and not subject to extreme variances as is found in other larger cities.

Very "kid" oriented - 7/27/2006

I live in Louisville, Kentucky, and while I am happy here and could continue to be happy here permanently, there are some things I would change if I could. #1 problem -- everyone here has kids, and everything -- I do mean everything -- is oriented towards families with young children. An example: we had a "Mardi Gras" festival for all the refugees from New Orleans, and much effort was made to make sure that it was a "family" event. Oh, well. Overall, it's a nice place.

Derby is the only cool thing about Louisville.... - 7/13/2006

Louisville is stuck in a rut. If you like culture and fine arts, this is not the place for you. Sometimes Louisville wants to be a big city, other times, they want to be a small one. Make up your minds!!!! Also, there is alot of crime here, it is not as safe as one would think. I have been here since 1999, and cannot wait to move!

ok - 3/1/2006

louisville is ok if you like a slow city. it's about 500thousand so its a mid sized city and does have frequent events and nightlife museums arts etc. Great place to raise kids and buy a house. relatively low crime, mild winter compared to up north in chicago ny etc.

Bluegrass Quality of Life - 3/1/2006

Louisville just might be the best-kept secret in North America. If you must have big-city amenities - major league sports, gridlocked traffic, hub airports, overpriced, shoddy housing - you might want to look elsewhere. But versus other medium-sized metro arees (1 million, plus or minus) you won't find many that compete. The restaurant scene alone is exceptional, the arts excellent, downtown is booming, clean, and growing, and housing is still cheap and high-quality. It may be the only place in the Southeast US where urbane, bohemian, liberal types and traditional, conservative folk could both find their slice of paradise.

Living in Louisville - 1/18/2006

Louisville is one of those places that you feel very passionate about and at times get very angry about. I can't speak to much about the school system as I have not put children through them. However, the private school system is very strong and there are many options. The Universities in the State offer some outstanding programs. It is very easy to live in Louisville. Commute times can be very short, depending on where you live. Very low crime rate, friendly people and plenty of family activities. Parks abound and a terriffic minor league baseball team and stadium, right on the riverfront. College athletics are great as well and you're centrally located to professional teams in Indy, Cincy, St. Louis and Nashiville. Louisville is a city of neighborhoods offering a great range of homes and prices. Louisville is also home to Fortune 500 companies like YUM! and Brown-Forman. Louisville comes alive in the Spring and there is of course two weeks of festivities in advance of the Kentucky Derby. The Fall color is spectacular. Louisville sufferes from slow moving political leaders who do not look out for the best interest of the citizenery. Air quality in Louisville is awful, the city has yet to enact a full smoking ban in restaurants and bars. The tax rate in the state is high and Louisville pretty much pays the way for the rest of the state. Meaningful job growth is very low. I've seen a large number of corporate executives relocate toLouisville, lose their jobs and choose not to leave. It can be very easy to live here. I guess that's a testament to Louisville.
