I am not moving no matter what - 11/13/2010

Maryland is the entire country in one state. You have the mountains in Western Maryland; the beach on the eastern shore, high cost of living in central Maryland and high taxes, housing is expensive but Maryland has almost everything you could find elsewhere altogether. The Federal Government is a good neighbor to have and provides a tremendous economic engine for stability in Maryland, the District of Columbia and Northern Virginia as well. Maryland is not perfect but its a good place to live, work and vacation. I live in Laurel Maryland which is the center of everything.

A wonderful, little state. - 11/3/2010

I have lived in Maryland for all but six months of my life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I was born and raised here and though I've been all over the country and the world, Maryland will always be home. I love the fact that we have access to beautiful bodies of water AND gorgeous mountains...and it doesn't take long to get from one to the other. The way we prepare and eat seafood is unique and definitely a pleasant surprise for someone who is looking for food with a lot of flavor. Our nightlife is fantastic and we offer something for EVERYONE, yuppies and hipsters alike.

In a word--Awful - 10/26/2010

There is nothing in Maryland you couldn't find in other states with friendlier people, lower taxes, lower crime, prettier cities and more scenic areas overall. People here are amazingly provincial, they act as if you're supposed to be impressed by Baltimore and the Chesapeake Bay. Why ? Endless cookie cutter tract housing, terrible traffic, filthy neighborhoods. I just never could get why people made such a big deal about living here. The accent is the weirdest thing I've ever heard, like someone trying to talk with a mouthful of marbles. Everyone was so arrogant and self-impressed. I'm out of here at the end of the year anyway. The South has nicer people and weather and the west has nicer scenery. Avoid Maryland at all costs, the most important ones being your mental and physical well being !

Land Value - 10/19/2010

The cost of living in the State of Maryland is very high and I wished I could find the value of land much cheaper here.

Compare Taxes before choosing where to live - 10/18/2010

Because of the economic downswing, the Washington DC area (DC, MD, VA) some of the counties, cities and the states have imposed additional taxes. Do a comparison of taxes and services before deciding where to live!

Beware: Marylanders are overrated; too Eastern, no - 8/24/2010

I've lived in Maryland over 5 years now, and despite the on-off economy, been very disappointed with it operates and treats people. Most residents appear to come from two places: Northeast states close to it(especially NY, NJ, PA), or foreign countries--both think and act as Maryland is the ONLY US state that exists--they seem unware of states west and south outside of it, except for their ocasional trip up straight to New York, or down to Florida or Myrtle Beach--and NO FURTHER! (I grew up in Texas, where people there are certainly geographically in-tune to all sections of America, not just the eastern seaboard. Residents appear to be wishy-washy phony liberal Democrats tending to instead support reserved, seemingly Virginia style (and they claim they HATE Virginia!) Republican-style standards--employers judge employees too much on those who act "Eastern" or wear only certain eastern style wardropes to work. Residents enjoy rudeness, using NY style obscenties to each other--they dislike anything friendly, exciting, new or orginal, or things done at all slower than city pace--Like Rip Van Winkles, they'll for something to work in nearby Virginia or up in New York City before its culturally or political acceptable at Annapolis (or nearby DC). They enjoy throwing cigarette butts outside of cars (you'll see piles of them at intersections!) and will STOP fot the longest time when a traffic light is GREEN--they love to honk their horns! Also, the taxes and skyrocketing living costs can affect oneself. Montgomery County, MD has the added pleasure of CONTROVERSY--putting HUNDREDS of speed cameras all over its roads, and give residents hard times about registering vehicles if these are not paid! Unless one has a good paying job already here, that one know can keep them here for several years, and willing to put up with the above bull, I suggest Americans finding another state to live in/move to.

Wish they has listed all the above! - 7/31/2010

Don't move to Maryland! I've lived here all my 46 years and we're praying for a job transfer out of here! Maryland from an insiders view: higher taxes, bad roads, constant construction going on but nothing really accomplished, unless you have a major degree forget about making any money (No jobs here!), houses sitting empty everywhere,...The weather anymore is crazy! Last winter it snowed all the time. Big snows! Now this summer it has been HOT with no rain! We hope we can get our children away from this state before they get trapped. TIYE, If you move from NY...bypass Maryland!

A little bit of everything - 4/15/2009

I grew up in Howard County, Maryland. I am a couple hours from the heart of Appalacia and a couple hours from the beach. I'm under an hour away from the Chesapeake bay and two major metropolitan areas with Baltimore and Washington D.C.

20199 - 3/6/2009

I came across this site by accident and found a description of zip code 20199 as being a city: Dulles in the state of Maryland. The article asked for information on the location's quality of life. This amuses me. No such place exists. 20199 is the regional mail center zip code in Sterling, Virginia. The post office arbitrarily named the center the Dulles regional mail center because it is close to Washington Dulles Airport. The post office is in Loudoun County, Virginia. It is not, nor has it ever been a city. It certainly isn't in the state of Maryland. So, how can we discuss the quality of life in this non-existent city?/

over crowded - 11/18/2008

There are many places in Maryland that are still rural and beautiful. The area that I live in is half way between Washington D. C. and Baltimore and is undergoing rapid change. We once were able to say we were in a rural setting but no longer. Along with increased population the prices of almost everything have gone up. I long for the days when I was unable to see my neighbors home from my yard. Those days are gone for good and I miss them.

Weather is great in Spring and Fall - 9/1/2008

The weather in Maryland is great in Spring and Fall. Summer - yuck - hot and humid. Winter - OK if you like cold, dark and occasional snow. But not for me. Have lived here for 18 years and looking to go back to the West coast.
