Ha! You think it is hot there!? - 2/15/2008

I just have to laugh at folks that say NM is hot. Oh yeah big deal 105 F in the summer? HA! I live in Phoenix Az and in July it gets to an average 118 F...this lasts until September...then It is 105-110 until October.... The weather starts to get warm in May and by June it just gets hotter...July comes around...wow...I am just glad it is dry heat! Much much MUCH better then humidity. Oh and another thing...the pop in Phoenix is 1.5 MILLION..in Phoenix ALONE...talk about traffic...I just don't understand all these people on here complaining about heat and traffic?

New Mexico is truly a land of enchantment. The weather is sunny and warm with mild winters. Its crystal blue skies and natural beauty are breathtaking. However, the relative humidity averages around 30% year round, so if you have allergy issues you may want to seek more humis climates.

Its about the economy - 12/11/2007

Being an Anglo native New Mexican, I have grown up waiting for New Mexico to develop an economy that is not reliant on federal dollars. Fifty-one years I have waited and am still waiting. New Mexico is a government funded economy and the majority of the decent wage jobs all revolve around the two research labs, Los Alamos and Sandia Laboratories. Without them this state would die, as our politicians are fully aware. There are also more attorneys than can make a living here, so personal injury competition is fierce. The disparity between the minority well paid and the majority poor creates high tension. The tremendous influx of immigrants, both legal and illegal, from Mexico, Central America, and South America keeps wages deflated as well and businesses take full advantage of it, which makes it difficult for the citizenry to demand a living wage. There are many wonderful and beautiful aspects to New Mexico, but the economy is not one of them and a shortage of water is quickly becoming a major issue that has been ignored for too long.

Wonderful climate. - 8/18/2007

The best part about living in New Mexico is the climate. You get all four seasons in the northern half of the state with mild summers and mild winters and long spring and fall seasons. The southern half of the state is more dry and has longer summers with very mild winters.

Rural New Mexico - 7/10/2007

I have lived in Grants 4 years now and really appreciate the climate and surrounding natural beauty. The property values are very affordable and businesses thrive on the rural population and interstate. This is a great foot-in-the-door opportunity for businesses of all types.

retireing to N.M. ? - 5/25/2007

My husband and I are in the process of selling our home in Rhode Island and are looking into moving to New mexico, I have been there 4 to 5 times for the balloon festival and gathering of nations but still am not sure this is the place for us after reading some of the comments. My main concern is housing,rent buy? could someone please list the safe places to look and live in Abg. and give me about what a decent 2 bed appartment will cost?. I know about the weather and dessert heat because I lived in Ca for 21 years. Because of the traffic and cost of living I would not move back there again. Rhode Island is very expensive to live, taxes,housing and heating costs are sky high and would eat up our pensions. Need some advice, thanks

Albuquerque,Horrible place! - 3/5/2007

Albuquerque is mostly Gang infested, very dirty, way too much crime (unreported & reported). Very windy, winter nights in the upper 10's and summer highs in the low 100's... Don't be fooled...the entire west is booming. Most people who have been here for more than 3 years would agree: There are no nice neighborhood in Albuquerque, and there is a lot of hostility towards people that do not speak spanish. Good luck!

Air quality - 7/8/2006

We live in Texas, and are planning to retire to New Mexico. Some of the cities we can afford in NM have a very low Air Quality Index. Does that mean that we could get sick if we live in one of those communities? Where we live now, Brookshire, TX has an AQI of 68 Since we are mature citizens, we consider that Air Quality is important to consider a place to live the rest of your years. East Mountains New Mexico - 4/2/2006

I can't think of a more perfect place to retire. Great climate. Kind people. Close to a big city, university and major medical but it is like being far away from all of that. It is peaceful, and yes enchanting.
