The coolest place - 9/5/2009

I love New York City. After many years of moving about the north east, west coast, and mid atlantic region I've found NYC to be the place that offers the most in terms of culture, diversity, recreation and fun! As a muti-cultural, multi-ethnic man I am more comfortable in NYC than any other place. Here among the worlds population I have found friends, food, music, and living history that imbues my life with excitement. All, in all I love New York! Come join me, gcb

New York is... - 8/18/2009

A great place to visit, an expensive place to live. If you want to come to this city, you better have a plan. Especially in this economy.

Tough Times - 8/9/2009

New York is a city in which everything is BIG, which is good and bad. Times now are difficult since so many industries are not doing well and there is a ripple effect. One phenomena is that jobs that are coming back are at lower salaries, while the cost of living is the same (e.g. high). Perhaps that doesn't matter for someone who has to be in NYC at all costs, but for the rest of us, that does matter. Although I grew up here and wanted to return, I find myself questioning that decision now. I am concerned that if the economics of the city do not stabilize, then the positive aspects achieved during good times will erode and the city will be less habitable for those between rich and poor. If you have lots of money, this is the place to be.

Cultural Rich New York - 8/6/2009

New York City is truly an international city that resides in the USA. Just about every language in the world can be heard spoken on the streets of NYC on any given day. With such a wide spectrum of residents from around the world comes a tremendously rich culture. Ethnic markets? NYC has many to choose from for every nationality. Restaurants? NYC has streets and neighborhoods dedicated to each ethnicity with many eateries to choose from for every nationality. Music? New York has the greatest live music scene in the States and possibly in the world. That's why I say "New York might be located in the USA but it belongs to the whole world".

Economic Conditions Have Negatively Affected MTA S - 8/4/2009

New York City is not immune to the hurting and sluggish economy as State and City fiscal budgets for the forseeable future (2 - 5 years)have been slashed, affecting the money budgeted for MTA Service and Expansion projects. The subway trains are more crowded than ever as fewer trains are running and operating less frequently in any given time of the day.

Manhattan - 7/29/2009

Manhattan is 1) convenient, open all the time and everything within walking distance, permitting exercise as a means of transport, 2) easygoing, option for any vocation or avocation, allowing one to control the stress level, 3) preservation efforts are strong and vocal, trying to protect the old and ensure a better quality of life for all, (against a corrupt city agency Landmarks Protection Commission), and 4) diverse population that is always interesting.

Housing is very pricey in NYC. The cost is prohibitive. Very difficult to do on a one income family.

I am trying to get out! - 7/17/2009

NYC is over crowded they are pushing the struggling middleclass out to make way for the rich.If your looking for a job pray you have a connection with someone already because it will be hell to get a job out here. In the social service industry, if you don't speak spanish you will have to learn, in order to keep the job for at least 1-2years.If you don't know spanish you will get pushed out of the job before the year is up! The middle class sector is drying up faster than a raisin in the sun.If you have a car lets hope you can live in an affluent area in newyork. If not they will take you car away with excessive ticketing, which i like to call taxation without representation.they are creating in brooklyn, millionaire row, millionaire row is supposed to be a section of brooklyn where wealthy people will live close to the new stadium. All the buildings, shopping, housing, and jobs are going to middle class individuals. The poor people are being forced to take MTA because the city excessively tickets poor income neighborhoods. Now what poor man you know can afford NEW york city's high car insurance and a car note and 1000 every 2months in tickets. HELP ME GET OUT! PLEASE! I AM Begging for peace, a great job, anew social life and my own car!!!!

Takes some getting used to, but definitely worth i - 7/2/2009

Not originally being from New York, my moving here was quite a culture shock. Not for the faint of heart. If you can manage to deal with the lack of space, the frenetic pace and the insanely high cost of living you will be rewarded. New York has the reputation of being the cultural epicenter of the U.S. for a reason. Personally, I usually love the pace here and I really love the diversity. Each one of the boroughs has amazing and interesting things to offer. I think it would be really tough for me to move to some white bread middle America town after living here. Also, people always say that New Yorkers are rude, but I really don't find that to be true.(Especially in Queens...wonderful people there!) People just don't b.s. you here, but when you live here you get to know people in your neighborhood and usually are treated pretty warmly.Besides, if someone is nice to you here, chances are it's genuine because they don't really have to be. Even with the constant financial stress, I still find it beautiful, exciting, scary, confusing, entertaining, inspiring, but never boring. I heart Ny and I mean it!

A Happening Place - 6/20/2009

Sunset Park in Brooklyn is full of action. There are Hispanics and Asians and Caucasians and Blacks all over. Lacks class, but full of life and movement. Churches all over the place.

Transportation - 5/23/2009

What makes New York City great is its convenience when commuting, we have a very good transportation system (The MTA), with over 8,000 rail and subway cars covering 2000 miles of track, and over 6,000 buses covering 3900 miles you'll be able to get virtually anywhere you need to go.

NYC: the good, the bad, and the ugly - 5/18/2009

Ive been living in New York for a few months. I think its a great place to live but not in the practical sense. The cost of living is just too high to build a savings and everything is a competition, especially on the job. What shocked me the most is how rude people really are here. Aside from all this I really love living here. What Ive come to relaize is that New York is a lifestyle. People have a special way of dressing, socializing and living that is diffent from the rest of the country. Anyone considering moving here its not that hard to move here it just takes geting used to.

New York City is a great place to have fun on a di - 5/3/2009

New York makes it easy to have fun on a dime. You can use your own legs (no charge there) to get almost anywhere and have a blast exploring all the amazing neighborhoods the city has to offer. People watching is no cost and you never know what kind of characters you might bump into here. In the summer especially there are free events and concerts any day of the week and with these come random food and sample giveaways. Many museums are donation based year round and for every expensive restaurant there are a hundred cheap bodegas and hot dog stands.

New York...Expensive and difficult, but worth it. - 5/1/2009

I like New York because though it is difficult, it was very nice to live. You have lots of things to do. Great restaurants, museums and proximity to other home in Russia.

Returning to school in NYC - 4/26/2009

I live in NYC and I love it. It is exciting and fun, my children and I love the theater, the ballet and opera and we get great discount tickets fairly often and attend performances as much as possible. I am in school seeking a second degree at the state university while oldest child is away at school. I find the state school to be excellent and a bargain. It is a school designed for busy adults and I am enjoying school the second time around so much more than the first experience. The City is not cheap but you can find deals if you read and ask questions so you can have a rich full life on a non profit income.

Not the city of my youth. - 4/11/2009

New York as I knew it growing up has disappeared. It is too expensive in Manhattan and the other boroughs are not far behind. I still love it, but will have to leave soon for the suburbs or another state. The polititians are clueless and waste your tax dollars while giving themselves raises. Cops are underpaid and leaving for the suburbs also. When the house of cards collapses it will be ugly. Just beginning to happen and still the polititians lie and say it will be alright.
