Relocation - 3/16/2008

NYC has wonderful cultural, business and people opportunities. I live in Brooklyn Heights which is one of the more beautiful spots in the city. It has a Promenade which you can walk along and espacially in the evening you look across the river at a magnificent view of NYC lit up. One problem with living in NYC is that the cost of living is high and is harder to afford as one gets older and lives on a fixed income.

Affordable!!! - 3/10/2008

Manhattan gets most of the attention when people think about New York. Well it is true manhattan is expensive. But New York also includes 4 other boroughs. In the Boroughs a person can find housing that rents or sells for much less than similiar properties in Manhattan. And you will also find community theater, outdoor recreation, and Zagat rated dining at much less than you would pay in the inner city. If you were to try and experience what the boroughs have to offer you won't be disappionted.

Where is the perfect place to live? - 3/10/2008

I've lived in New York for seven years and have had a typical love-hate relationship with the city. Costs are too high, and I have learned I need a place that is greener and more open. While the museums and cultural opportunities are unsurpassable, the disappointment with recreational activities being confined to indoors, bitter winters with whipping winds contrasted with sweltering summers make New York undesirable to me.

i think new york is the best city that you can live in compared to other cities in the world. It is very indeed global and also, there are various and several opportunities of education, careers, and life, etc.

Commute Time - 3/2/2008

While New York City residents have some of the longest commutes (44 minute average, according to this site), a majority of people use public transportation. As a person who spent 60 minutes driving each way into work when I lived in another state, I much prefer a 30 minute commute on the train than dealing with the cost and frustration of sitting in my car in a unmoving traffic.

Subway - 2/29/2008

I recently returned to NY after a long absence and am amazed at the efficiency of the subway system. Anyone who needs to travel in NY and/or would like to see the varied ethnic groups that make up the city should ride the subway. Music is great too.

Brooklyn - 2/26/2008

The menu options don't let me put in Brooklyn, but it really is great. Brooklyn is adjacent to one of the largest economic engines in the world, with a plethora of jobs in finance, media, entertainment as well as engineering, services, etc. Brooklyn, while still expensive compared to many other cities, is a discount to living in most parts of Manhattan. Brooklyn is a city of neighborhoods, with each having a distinct identity. There are people of all types in Brooklyn, from the fancy Bankers that want more space for their family, to artists, to the old-school Brooklynites.

Cost of Housing - 1/22/2008

New York is truly a "world city" with an almost unending list of things to do and see. Unfortunately after paying astromically high rents for small spaces, it is difficult to find money in one's pocket to enjoy what the city has to offer.

General View - 1/11/2008

New York City is truly a 'melting pot'...An absolute wealth of culture with lots of flavor! For this reason, it's a happening place to visit. However, unless your pocket book has a gold lining ,the quality of life is not up to par. The energy level(also known as the rat race) can be quite anxiety- provoking rendering a weariness or that 'unfriendly vibe' New Yorkers are notorious for. The only way to avoid the angst of city life is to have the financial means to enjoy all it has to offer or you'd better learn some serious meditation skills. All-in-all, it's a cool place for the single life but not-so-much to raise kids. (I moved here from SC at 19 and have lived here nearly 19 years. I'm currently looking for my best place to live..outside of NY)

One of the greatest cities, however... - 1/10/2008

New York is one of the greatest cities and offers tremendous possibilities. However, living and working everyday in New York can be very monotonous and tantalizing. Much of the business climate here is cut throat/hustle bustle and can be very demoralizing after a while. It just depends on the person. New York is very fun and popular for post college-30+ year old crowd, but after a while it gets tedious and one can feel burned out.

If You Are Aot From NY it is Uncomforable - 1/3/2008

NY is crazy and exciting, but the quality of life is not good. I highly recommend the experience of living in New York because it will bring a lot out of you. Once you live here you really will be able to live anywhere - comfortably. If you are not from the area NY is a very uncomfortable place to live once the novelty wears off. I grew up out west, but after living in NY for 4 years I am ready for "normal" life again- a driveway, washer/dryer, grass, etc. I really miss sunshine, courtesy, and space too. Forget about buying a place unless you are ok with with living in a shoe box, or you want to commute 40 miles in from New Jersey.

The real estates prices are soaring here. They say it will go down but when it happens, if it happens no nice location will be on the maket.
