| Growing out of control... - 1/17/2021
We moved here about 3 1/2 years ago. Prescott Valley is growing out of control, the town rubber stamps anything a builder wants. Traffic is getting worse, new residents drive like a bat out of hell. Seems like liberalism is moving in. May be time to move.

| Beautiful mountains - 12/29/2020
Before moving to Prescott Valley I lived in Phoenix 30 years and watched Prescott Valley go from basically a few little mom and pop stores on the main road to Prescott to the booming town it is now now.
It's growing fast. People from other states are finding this gem among the mountains and new home developments are popping up everywhere.
It's beautiful here and I think most people take pride in our town and keep it clean.
If your looking for lush green yards with big green trees this may not be the place for you. Although we have four mild seasons, most yards and landscaping are desert landscapped with lots of rock.
We don't have much for shopping but that's true for any smaller town.
Traffic is horrible. We have two main roads and all the smaller, surrounding communities come here. People from Phoenix come here, especially in the summer to get away from the heat which adds to the traffic.
We don't have sidewalks or many street lights in the neighhoods.
Even with the traffic, growth and no sidewalks, I find it peaceful and people here are friendly.

| Review from a native Californian - 4/19/2018
I moved to Prescott Valley nearly four years ago. I am a native of S- CA and did a lot of research on “Where to Retire.” We made our move in 2014 and I was very happy to leave the high cost of living, smog, traffic, and earthquakes. I was very excited to move to Arizona. It’s a good place for retirees. The cost of living is way less than CA. I don’t work here but I know plenty of people here that do. Trade professionals, medical jobs, law enforcement may be available to those who qualify. There are service-oriented jobs that generally pay near minimum wage.
The weather here is generally like California but a little dryer. Topography is brown grass bushes, Juniper Ash tress, and a few pine trees Prescott has more pine trees and more snow. In Prescott Valley we get maybe a few inches a year and makes it pretty. It usually melts on the roads by noon. Prescott gets more snow in the higher elevation. Hilly streets can be a challenge for those who like to walk or drive in Prescott. Prescott Valley tends to be more level and less of a problem in the winter. Winter temps can be in the teens, but it’s drier here and not a wet feel. Some people wear shorts and others bundle up (like me) in the winter. Monsoon rains can be heavy at times with downpours like you have never seen before. Thunder and lightning shows are spectacular in the summer. It can get hot at times record temp at 105 but normally in the 90’s. Phoenix will be 115+ so this is a break from that. We generally don’t have smog or dust storms. Occasionally fires and smoke causes haze but it goes away fairly quick.
The people generally are really nice and seem to have migrated from California and other East coast and Midwest states. Natives are generally nice and don’t bother one another. It’s rare to meet a native from Arizona.
The driving experience is different from CA. There are more senior drivers here and people generally drive slower. It's a slower pace of life and takes bit of adjusting from being in the fast paced life of LA. There is some traffic at times (but nothing compared to LA). If you want to shop, go early. It’s not a problem. If you wait until the afternoon, expect to wait longer at the lights. Don’t speed because you will get nailed. There are some undercover unmarked vehicles used for traffic enforcement. Obey the law within reason and you’ll be OK.
This is a middle class to upper middle class town. There are some expensive custom built homes on larger lots usually outside of town limits. Prescott has areas (Prescott Lakes, The Ranch, Yavapai Hills) that are more expensive and exclusive. Some people that sold there home in CA and made the move here at a bargain. IMO...Prescott Valley is more affordable than Prescott and there are some unincorporated areas near the town that may not be as attractive. The reason was there were few zoning restrictions in the 60-70’s so there are places with trailer homes, manufactured modular homes, empty lots, standard built homes all in the same neighborhood. There are some planned neighborhoods with HOA communities like Granville and Quailwood. These neighborhoods are nice have newer homes. HOA fees are low ($50+ a month) and are low compared to CA.
There is no water shortage here according to Prescott Valley water officials. There is a planned 100-year water supply required for each home to be built. Due to the housing boom, more homes and neighborhoods are being developed and it’s projected to get busier in the coming years. Earthquakes are rare but have occurred. Wind can be annoying at times, but a breeze is nice to keep the air clean. Hospitals are pretty good here with two facilities. Specialty treatment may require a Phoenix visit. Overall this is a nice place to live and to retire. No regrets leaving CA.

| Prescott Valley is an awsome place to live - 2/4/2018
Did you know that Prescott Valley is getting younger. The median age is 41 years young. The housing market prices are affordable and the new housing market is booming. The small town ambiance is loved by all. Hiking trails, water sports, biking and much more are just some of the outdoor activities that our community offers. I will give you a guided tour when you get ready to visit and buy a home in my hometown.

| meh its pretty and loads of potential - 11/5/2017
Better than most cities, the streets are clean and nice, there is alot of improvements, and it is growing pretty crazy. There are alot of HOAs which im not sure if that is a good thing or bad thing on a large level such as this.
The internet is above average city which is not that bad <-- this is IF you have internet options. Some areas still dont have it. Schools are pretty low rated. Considering they only spend like 6 grand a student vs US standard is 12 grand a student. But the schools are not crowded.
There is a great aviation university here which is pretty expensive. Other than that there is a community college.
There really are no busses. I dont have a drivers license, so I bike everywhere which is not bad. It can be windy at times.
After living here its been nice and the people are nice but stay private or to themselves. If you are looking for housing investment this i suppose would be the place.
Like other people have stated. . .There is alot of potential here but it seems to be going nowhere . . Im not sure where all the taxes are going? Parks are nice loads of cool outdoors stuff but nothing else. . . some good medical centers and doctors here also. . . But if you are new to Arizona the health care is kinda pricy compared to some other markets due to lack of compition also Medicade in this state does not have dental for adults.

| BORING - 7/15/2017
I have lived in prescott valley most of my teenage years and spent my twenties here. Most of the reviews on here are correct.... This is a low scale, quiet, boring town. It's incredibly hard to meet people here unless you're a bar hopper. The job choices are horrendous. Unless you love working the food or retail industry, finding a job is near impossible. Our mall is a ghost town. Old people go there to walk out of the heat. The streets are in horrible shape and are growing terribly overcrowded as the population here grows. The drivers here are infuriating. They drive so slow! It takes forever to get anywhere. For how low key it is here, housing is way too expensive. I pay one thousand a month for an upstairs apartment that I was on a waiting list for six months to get into. Unless you can afford an actual house, your only other option of housing is a duplex. P. V. is littered with duplexes and over the years I've lived in plenty of these. Every experience in a duplex I've had was horrible. Loud neighbors, thin walls, terrible landlords, overpriced. The education offered is extremely limited. There's one community College in prescott that offers almost nothing. The classes are so crowded that you have to be on the computer at midnight when the classes open to register or they fill up too quickly and you will have to wait for next semester. After two years of disappointment with my daughter's elementary school, I finally buckled down and enrolled her into a different one this year. Hopefully she won't go through four teachers in one year with this one.
There are no sidewalks or streetlights. There are no clubs. There is no bus system, which is ridiculous being that everything here is so spread out over the desert. There's slim pickings for shopping.
The weather is ok. You got to be able to deal with the heat and wind, it's constantly windy here. The winters are just cold and dry.
Needless to say, my family and I are looking elsewhere to live. I don't know why anyone, except for maybe older people, would actually want to live here.

| This Ain't Mayberry - 6/13/2017
My husband and I moved here seven years ago, thinking this to be a nice, neighborly town. Unfortunately, Prescott Valley is far from it.
If you are a walker, there aren't any sidewalks in the residential areas, unless you move into a HOA neighborhood. We're not really sure what happens to the tax money collected here, but it's not going into road improvements. (On that subject, the town council seems to be filled with the same cronies, term after term.)
The insect population, namely grasshoppers are right at home here. If you have an aversion to large bugs, then PV may not be the place for you.
As for friendly neighbors, I guess we picked the wrong neighborhood. We've been here seven years and have not made any friends in this town, and we're very outgoing people. It seems most of the residents here are big city transplants and prefer to stay to themselves or small-minded types who immediately reject anyone that doesn't follow their politics/opinions/religion.
Jobs are mainly service industry. I believe the only way many afford the housing here is by having hefty retirements.
I hate to be negative, but if we could do it over, we would have moved way further north.

| Really? Real estate values DOWN? - 1/4/2017
Not sure where the info that real estate values are down here in the last year comes from. We bought our home in Pronghorn Ranch in November 2015. We could sell our home 14 months later for $80,000 more than we paid. That's a 25% increase.

| Good Bang for your Buck - 1/2/2017
I moved to Prescott Valley in 2004. We were able to buy a new 2500 sqft home in an upscale Community for $228,000.00. It has now appreciated to $335,000.00. The same house in L.A. California would most likely cost in the neighborhood of 1.2 Million $. This is a small town but it offers a lot for the mature adult. I would not recommend it for 20 somethings for there is not real night life other than some bars. It has all 4 seasons and a little snow in the winter. If you are moving here from a high priced real estate location you will like what you can get for the price. 15 min from the town of Prescott it offers a lot of pluses. Prescott is nice but much higher priced. The town is old so streets are narrow, and the city council has that if you are not from here don't give us your opinion attitude. Great to visit and then go home to PV (Prescott Valley). An hour from Phoenix if you need the big city. To see homes in the area I would use www.SearchPrescottValley.com

| Depends on what you want - 9/20/2016
I'm not from PV but grew up in the Northeastern part of the state. I have been to PV and P many times and would say that if you like a small town (though moderately-sized compared to where I grew up), a variety of outdoor activities, slow pace, and moderate climate then it seems like a great place. If you like the night life, plenty of stores and entertainment, and a fast pace then it's probably not for you. It does seem to be growing so that may change eventually.
I always find it so fascinating when urban dwellers (I've lived in Phoenix and Tucson for extended periods) say that there's 'nothing to do' in ((choose your small town)). I have the opposite perspective, as I love getting outdoors, in the forest, on the trail, on the lake and feel claustrophobic in the city. There's plenty to do for 'free' outdoors, but relatively little in the city. If you have cash to burn, then there's plenty to do in the city. It all just depends on what YOU consider 'things to do'.

| Lackluster - 6/24/2015
I would agree with many of the comments made about Prescott Valley. It is a small town with minimal shopping, family entertainment, and social life. My husband and I moved here from Phoenix 2 years ago hoping to get out of the "rat race." Unfortunately, we are now in place that seems to be moving at a "snail's pace." The people here are nice enough but pretty much keep to themselves. I hardly ever see any young people...most of the peeps around here are older. There isn't much to do in the summer until it gets cooler in the evening...but then the mosquitoes and other bugs come out. The public pools are soooo busy, it's a joke trying to "swim" there. It's more like squeeze into a small corner so you won't get jostled. There are couple of parks. One of them is fun for kids. Bust most of them seem to cater to fishermen or walkers. We go into Prescott quite a bit, but the Courthouse Square has lost its mystique and we've visited just about every venue. All in all, I think PV, P, and CV are fun places to visit, but I wish we hadn't moved here!

| Great Place for Retirees - 2/23/2015
PV has everything you need - close to home...all the stores, good restaurants, top of the line medical facilities, 5 lakes, Harkin theaters, bowling alley, vets, Lodges - Moose, Elks, VFW, as well as a wonderful climate, mild winters, beautiful scenery, and close to historic Prescott, only a few hours from Phoenix if you want the desert, or Flagstaff is you want to ski, and the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell. Great opportunities for seniors, community college continuing ed courses - a healthy atmosphere and attitude of locals. I highly recommend giving PV a look.

| A town with amazing potential but wasted - 10/18/2013
First I should explain that the town of Prescott, AZ is approximately 10 miles to the west. There is a local snarking at each other as to which town is the best (likely by insecure inhabitants) because there is not much differences between the two. Prescott valley as the name implies is built on a valley between foothills starting in earnest in the 1960's and is relatively flat. It's the homes of upper and lower middle class families. Prescott is located in the foothills which established in 1870's and is home to the retired rich and the impoverished. The end result is that each town has it's balance.
Being high desert Prescott Valley has a wonderful 4 season climate, hot summers in the 80-90's with low humidity but not nearly as hot as the lower altitudes such as Phoenix. Spring and fall are paradise and winter is the occasional light dusting of snow that melts by noon. Kids love it when we get the rarer 1 inch of snow but they have to get out in it before 10AM. Having lived the Chicago area it is a delight to see the crystalline snow covered trees in the morning and equally a delight to drive to work with the windshield and roads melted off. For gardeners there is frustration with the hard pack clay soil and rock, plan on major amendments or hauling in garden soil but zone 7b makes for a wide selection of plants just plan on an irrigation system ahead of time.
Housing is an adequate selection but definitely over priced for the economy. Most homes are site built stick on pads, costs of basements are prohibitive due to the soil/rock. The few with basements are on the side of hills or site built and back filled. Utility costs are moderate due to mild seasons, biggest cost is summer air conditioning. Water and natural gas costs more here than in the Midwest/East. Biggest pay off is that you can live out on your patio April to October, and mosquitos in heavy rain years only in August if you or your neighbors don't dump any water catches in their yard. If you find a home or have money to buy into solar you can utilize our biggest free assest- sunshine.
Prescott Valley continues to grow which I feel is double edged sword. Housing is now sprawling which displaced the beautiful herds of antelope that grazed and played on the edge of town. What was once a 20 minutes trip from one side to the other can now be 45 minutes. The town government shows lack luster leadership as divides its goals between the desire to placate citizens as "small town" but be progressive and bring in business/jobs. The city as managed to develop an Entertainment District which is growing slowly but is growing and the shopping is getting better. The city made a total coup by pulling in and building an event center that stages Sundogs hockey, professional music (some pretty good names in rock and country have come through), and entertainment venues. The town lacks the "mom and pop" stores that lend charm to small towns, but then again this town incorporated in the 60's so does not have a long history. What this town completely lacks is recreation for the very people who make up most of it's population- working middle class. Frustratingly, most activities are geared to the elderly and small children, if your older than 5 but younger than 65 your entertainment will limited and purchased such as shopping and movies. And opportunities to take city or community college classes on pottery, wood working, library classes etc. will all have ended before you get off work on the week days. I will note that this year, 2013, the college had a handful of one day classes on Saturday, in my opinion it's pitiful and a slight to the very people to support this town. The city maintains several parks, some quite nice and some are ridiculous plots of land.
Most of the schools are recently built and I feel the class sizes are bigger than was this web site states. But if solid children's education is what your are looking for then Arizona is not the place, our national ranking is humiliating. One caveat is that the schools are safe and bullying/behaviors are taken seriously and they continue to get stronger on that theme every year. Prescott has a community college with a satellite campus in Prescott Valley, I feel the teaching level is above average and credit costs are a value.
Job opportunities in Prescott Valley are sorely lacking and many people have commented that non degreed women have much more options than men. It seems the professional job market is very small and fluctuates with the economy. The job market as whole presents the biggest challenge and I honestly don't know how people can afford to purchase and maintain homes given the juxtaposed problems of costly housing and lack of jobs.
The Good, Bad, and Ugly of Prescott Valley. The city and state will waste (in my opinion) millions of dollars to put in a 6 lane road (Glassford Hill Road) with a decorative median and then set the speed limit at 35 and that's our fast in town road. The highway 69 which cuts through the town is a blistering 45 MPH and all other roads are 25 or less. The reduced speed combined with the building sprawl takes what feels like forever to get you where you are going. There are few sidewalks in this town, mostly in front of new business buildings and I can only think of one residential street with a sidewalk at this writing. Lack of sidewalks makes the town look shoddy and with the August rains comes the weeds in the driveways and ditches that very few will cut. The town then takes on it own special hillbilly charm that makes your stomach turn when you think that your making mortgage payments on $250,000 home. And that $250,000 home (which is the national equivalent of an $80,000 home) has that special August/September look of a $30,000 home. Heaven help you if you are disabled and in a wheelchair because your "driving" your wheelchair on the road, yes it does happen frequently. The citizens are for the most part law abiding, keep to yourself kind who rarely make fuss or come together to protest discontent and that explains a lot. If there are clichés I haven't seen them, been here 10 years now. They can be judgmental about the oddest things- race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, those topics they could care less about. But whether you are native or a transplant and conservative or liberal will get you far more stares. And the town council will continue to run on "small town ideals" and forgo progressive ideas never seeing that those two can be married and raise this town out of it gangly teenage hood into a mature family oriented hometown.

| Not for me - 10/13/2012
I was so happy to relocate there from San Diego. I did do my homework and after staying there for 3 months I realized it was not for me. The altitude was hard to adjust too. I did not care for the lack of malls or one mall I should say. I was grateful to come back here and I just would warn people to think twice. Medical care was not the best either, and the places to eat seemed mundane. Not good for single people or if you like to go dancing either. Just make an informed decision and don't make a mistake like I did.

| Worst place to live EVER!!! - 8/10/2012
The speed limit is 25 miles per hour throughout the whole town you have to plan a day trip to get to the grocery store. on top of the ridiculously low speed limit, everyone seems to want to drive ten miles under the speed limit due to the speed traps all over town. The police force is completely corrupt. a cesspool of dirty cops. I personall have been pulled over for not turning into the "proper lane" also for not using my turn signal, not going fast enough when the light turned green, my tint on the BACK window was supposedly too dark, and one license plate light out. the place is crawling with cops who will pull you over for quite literally anything. the main travel route to prescott is 45 mph the entire 15 miles uphill, and riddled with stop lights. not to mention the dating scene. there is absolutely no where to meet anyone other than the bar which is not a savory place to meet the "man of your dreams". Also there is absolutely no where to take your kids to have fun. The zoo is tiny, many of the parks do not have baby swings and the ones that do, only have one baby swing. the only public pool in the town would not let us take our children swimming at 3 in the afternoon in the middle of summer because the highschool is so small that they cant provide their own pool for their swim team. How can a town full of fast food restraunts not have a single play place? There are plenty of restraunts that are not up to code and should be shut down with disgusting food and filthy dining areas. I once sat at a booth and looked at the wall next to me and there were boogers all over it. Needless to say i walked out and now do most of my cooking at home. next topic: shopping. half the stores in the mall are closed down and whats lefft sucks. everybody has decent cars and homes (which are over priced by the way) but theres no where to buy decent clothing. pretty much we got walmart, kmart, ross, and target. and the ross is tiny. all the kids around here end up partying or on drugs because there is nothing else to do. plus teen pregnancy is outrageously high here so you would think that they wouldgive us a place to take our kids to have fun but theres no where. so basically this is a horrible place to live also ranking in the top ten for worst cities to be single in the country. dont move here you will regret it!
