Best year-round weather - 5/29/2011

Blue skies over 300 days a year. A little windy, but generally a great climate for all outdoor activities.

We Need More Health Care Professionals! - 11/12/2009

Lot's of vacant medical office space in Prescott Valley. I'd guess that once a young doctor finishes medical school and his residency, his wife insists upon going to the opera and shopping in Scottsdale so she won't move up here to God's country.

Thinking of moving to Prescott. - 10/3/2009

My husband and I live in the phoenix valley and LOVE Prescott. We are constanly coming up north for short day trips. He doesn't mind the hot summers in the valley. I hate them. We have two kids, one in middle school one in high school. The valley is so busy and congested, we're used to the slower pace as seems to be up north. I know jobs are hard to come by up there, but we've been applying and if something came our way would this be a smart choice? I want a quiet safe place for our family and good schools. Any info would be great! Thanks!

Amazing Growth but less Nature - 1/13/2008

Prescott Valley 20 years ago used to be a dusty little strip along side Hwy 69 but is now a buzzing small city which is about to join with several other small towns surrounding it to form a small metropolis. The growth is phenomanal. I personally am a small town type person but if you have money and are maybe older and need services this is a great, probably one of the best places to live on earth. The weather is great and very kind to old bones and joints. I have explored all the mountains, deserts and canyons withen a 100 miles radius and still haven't seen it all. I guess I just need a change especially since I live on a VA pension and the cost of living here especially housing has increased. I live in a duplex with 2 bedrooms and am paying $750 a month. The people here are friendly and there has been a big influx of mexican people that are some of the greatest and nicest family oriented people that I have ever seen. On there backs and sweat this town seems to have really taken off. I rate this place a 9 out of 10 to live. This area seems to be the substance abuse recovery center for the country. Prescott Valley is building a huge mental health clinic and they have numerous outlets for help if you are handicapped by addictions or some kind of mental problem. God bless ya and bless us all.

Overpriced Retirement Town - 9/10/2007

I moved here from Los Angeles about three years ago. Although it is a step in the right direction from L.A. this is a boring retirement town with overpriced houses compared to the job market. I am looking at heading to the Southeast (possibly North Carolina) can anyone suggest a nice place where people are friendly and the summers are not unbearable?

Prescott Valley: A Giant Speed Trap - 1/9/2007

I moved to Prescott Valley about a year ago. Some of the worst roads and drivers that I have ever seen. No one drives the speed limit consistantly and there are tons of elderly on the road. Now, to make matter worse the city leadership is placing automated camera radar at every other intersection, as well a roving automated minivan equiped with radar. Getting around town is an absolute nightmare now and will only get worse with time. Everyone drives like they are terrified of the law and of getting a ticket. If you move here be prepared to drive like you have a month of Sundays to get from point A to B.

New Hospital, New Bldg. for our own Hockey team, - 6/27/2006

Prescott Valley aka PV now has it's own brand new hospital. The hockey arena is close to being built. Yes, we do have a Starbuck's and an IHOP almost completed. There are many nice restaurants here for a smaller town and more being built all of the time. We have a mall with JC Penneys, Dillards and Sears as the anchor stores. We have a nice Harkin's theatre with stadium seating with 14 theatres. There are cultural events 8 miles to Prescott and a l-l/2 hour drive to Phoenix. There's a hiking trail that you can walk, bike or ride horses called the Iron King Trail (beware snakes in the summer, I've heard of people seeing rattlers, but I have not, only the harmless type). There is not too much in the way of water sports here, but beatiful Lake Powell and others are within a day's driving. We do have several small lakes locally for fishing too. You can spend a lot of time outdoors because of the abundant sunshine. I love it here and I am an AZ. native for 55 years.

economy - 6/10/2006

I have lived here over a year, and Prescott Valley does have benefits over the big city (clean air, low traffic, etc.) but beware! i would think twice about starting a retail business here. There is a segment of the population which is very poor, and a way of thinking that you can't make any money here. The lower paying workers seem to make it so (the trap). Also, many of the local businesses are operated poorly, so the residents (including Prescott) make many of their larger purchases in Phoenix, which drains the local economy further. Something else, the government here is more to be feared here; it is a misdemeanor to violate a zoning law in Prescott Valley, and you could be charged with a misdemeanor for speeding in Arizona. The Town's laws are sometimes mis-interpreted by town officials which magnifies the problem. Prescott Valley: A good place to live with some warnings.

climate of Prescott Valley - 1/30/2006

Mild in both summer and winter. Cold at nights sometimes goes down to teens in winter. Winter days can go to middle 60's but more around 50. You need furnace on every day. Lots of windy days. Can be hard on older people espically women. Watch out for the everyday dirt dust devils. Keep your windows gaurded when they come through. ( Shut). Not much rain at all. Low humidity around 10%. Lots of sunshine. If it snows it melt real fast. Don't really need a snow shovel. Cops! They are everywhere and get you for anything. I have never seen so many police in one area. It almost seems like a police state. There are just too many and they want more, 50 more. They will get you sooner or later for driving. Taxes are high and getting higher. Water is gold here and they just keep putting in more houses. In the next 10 years the growth her will explode from 25,000 now to 300,000. We will have to move soon. With all that people and No water. This place will be a modern day ghost town.

WATER - 12/5/2005

We had a home built in Prescott Valley/Mingus West in March, 2004. We sold it primarily because we could not find medical care nearly as good as Kaiser for my wife. She was diagnosed with breast cancer, June 2003. The local doctors were very reluctant to take her on with existing breast cancer and if so the cost to us could have been unreasonible. A very obvious probalem is the lack of water. Almot every day the local paper has hints on how to save water and this is very good. But the real problem is in the lack of water. There was a continual battle over the acquisition of lands for water, many very large and very coslty properties were being considered just for their water. Be very aware that neither Prescott nor Prescott Valley have access to large bodies of water. They are in a very tight situation for water and because of that I would rate these two towns much lower than one may see on the surface. One should be aware of the expansive soils homes can be constructed on in this area, especially Prescott Valley/Mingus West. The problems that may be expected can easily cost many thousands of dollars and they may never be repaired correctly. We retired and thought Prescott Valley/Mingus was our place. The good shopping, plenty of stores and resteraunts, markets, theaters, etc. Plenty of competition that allowed for very competitive costs especially for seniors

Prescott Valley is rapidly growing and the town council is doing an excellent job of recruiting businesses and entertainment. A new ice rink is in the development stage.

Climate - 8/21/2005

I lived in the Prescott Valley area for 18 years. What I liked the most about the weather was the abundant sunshine and the dry climate. I did not fully appreciate this until I moved to Arkansas, which is very, very humid!
