| Family Town - 11/23/2010
If you don't have any family, do not move to Tallahassee, Florida. I moved here in 1996 from one of their small towns, but originally I grew up in Denver. Oh! My Lord why did I ever do that. The people in the community slandered me. They put my kids in jail. It is real poverty stricken. I am an african american women and single mother. I was discriminated against here, I was fired off of every job I ever got hired here, my lights were always shut off, and their so called public officials here when I complained to them, they did nothing about i, not even the damn Mayor. There is a historically black college here, florida state(mostly all white) and a all white community college here, and a technical school. So the town caters to the college students. If you are coming here to go to college, get your high school somewhere els, and then apply here, because the cops here are bad about putting you in jail, especially if you are black. A lot of black people in florida have had felonies put on them, and the blacks are put away for years. I got lucky and some lawyers filed things for me, but they took all of my money. This is a town full of haters. It is hard to make friends. The people back stab you, and they will nopt help you. Why I stayed here was because my children were in middle school and I didn't want to move them. You come to florida on vacation and end up on felony probation. The weather is humid all the time. When it rains, the lightening feels as though it is inside your house and you are about to get struck. I've never seen so many endangered speices walking around the neighborhoods, like amarillows, snakes, (lots of poisionous snakes), lizards are constanly hiding on your porches and in your windows, yellow jackets, and I got stung by a wasp and had to go to the emergency room, it hurted real bad. Other parts of Florida are beautiful, if I had of known I would have moved to South Florida, but it is much too expensive. I son't know what kind of people live in northern Florida, which consist of Tallahassee and Panama City, but this is a very strange town. There is always somebody stalking you. It's just bad. I can't wait to exit. It was a very bad choice to raise my children. I only have one left with me. I brought three. People here don't like outsiders.

| Tallahassee sucks. - 5/17/2010
If you live in Tallahassee, it is because you're parents moved you here because of their work, and now you're on your own, you're here for school, or you're off your freakin rocker. Besides getting an education (if you're completely rich) there is nothing to offer here in Tallahassee. Tallahassee's like a sad animal dieing slowly, and just needs to be put out of it's misery. If the resources that were being put into keeping this dieing city of life-support were placed elsewhere, say, Jacksonville, it would probably save at least one of the two cities. So, if anyone has nothing better to do than ride the ship to the bottom of the ocean, come join me in Tallahassee!

I've lived here more than 20 years, and things have improved considerably since I first arrived. There are definitely worse places to live.

| Low COL; Close to Universities - 4/26/2010
Tallahassee has a somewhat low cost of living which makes it a great place to live and save money. There are also 3 colleges in the city which bring about lots of activities and cultural diversity.

| If you have to live in Florida...Tallahassee is th - 11/29/2009
In regards to weather, I think Tallahassee has the nicest weather for the state of Florida. Summers are hot but not brutal, and winters are cold but not brutal. Spring and Fall are the prettiest seasons where tallahassee reaches this sunny but windy medium which is really pleasant.

I'm not from Tallahassee but I have noticed that there is never serious traffic issues here and that is great for a student commuter.

| Living Here - 5/14/2009
Having lived in Tallahassee for over 50 years, I can say that it is a great place to live, plenty of entertainment, arts, museums, sports, recreation, churches, shopping and resturants. But having two universities in town is sometimes a problem. The best time of the year is when all the college students are gone.

| Climate - 11/24/2008
On the Seinfeld show Jerry said, "Lets all move to Florida and pretend its not hot!" Here in North Florida, we do get some cooler temperatures in the winter months: a few nights below freezing and, rarely, a dip into the teens. Still, it is quite likely you will be running your A/C at some point during the winter. The really hot, sticky, unpleasant weather gets here by May and lasts till sometime in October. If you haven't experienced Gulf Coast heat and humidity, be sure you do before deciding to move here. I have known more that one person to change their plans after visiting.
Tallahassee is in the top dozen cities for rainfall amounts. Unlike the constant drizzle in the Northwest U.S., we get tremendous down pours that often result in flooding of low areas including some roadways. Most of these areas are known to locals, but with new housing developments, sometimes people discover too late that their home is susceptible to flooding. And then, there are all the bugs and biting insects....

| boring town - 8/31/2008
Tallhassee is so boring. There is not much to do unless you attend Famu or Florida State. Tallahassee is mostly a college town. A lot of college student live here and they party. They say it is a fmily city not. It would not be wise to raise a family here. Take my advice! That is why my family moved to Orlando were you can do so much more.

| Tallahassee,Fl College Town - 8/12/2008
Tallahassee is for people who are retired or college student maybe people with money.I think ,the jobs are not here, they have signs up saying they are hiring but they dont hire or call. The companys here like to hire college kids because of what they can pay them.they dont know if the person looking for a job that not a college student would work for what they are paying. That is one of the first question they ask.Are u a student. To me it doesn't matter, if a person have what it take for the job then give it to them. The cost of living is high for the pay to be so low.once again community say because of the student they up on the rent. What about people who just want a better life for there kids and the older people who get SSI or any other government assistant also the people with degrees. As for raisining your family its a great place to be.But if you are looking to better you life I think that this may not be a place to come.I know for me its not as soon as i can get a job and save Iam out.I look at it this way no matter were you stay some body has to saty there it may be for u and may not be for you. iam just talk about what i know for me.and i know this is not it.crime is going to be ever were so as job lost and etc but if you are doing great and love were you at than dont let no one make you feel different until u find out for yourself.I know i dislike ,at the time MIA,FL but now i appreciate it becuause its alot of opportunity there. So if you feel that way about where u grow up at and its a busy place like MIA than think again it could be worst.Everone move is different no matter were you come from.just find that place that work for you.God Bless

| Great public schools! - 5/27/2008
My family and I moved here about two years ago from South Florida. Wow, what a difference in the public schools! This is a great place to raise children.
However, if you have asthma or allergies, you may want to visit in the spring or fall before making your final decision. It can be brutal!

| So much to say... - 2/13/2008
Florida in general is a nice place to visit but living here, hmmm. The school system is not the best but it depends on what side of town you live on. The state has always been a crime haven. Crime is on any side of town with some places having more extreme crimes then others. Tallahassee is similar but different then the south Florida. there are more trees in north Florida. The demographics for the region is primarily black and white with a few people with Latin American descant. The town is slow pace with a not so good police force. The county sheriff on the other hand does a alright job. Jobs here do not start off as high when compared to rest of the state and Florida itself is a low wage state. The cost of living in TLH is low when looking at MIA,TPA BAY,ORL. The cost of living in Florida in general is high. I love Florida but it is what it is. TLH is only good for college basically. Not much here to do but interesting people to meet when on the college scene.

| college town - 1/4/2008
If you are in college at one of the 3 schools, work in law or for the state, then this place is perfect for you. Terrain and climate are much more like GA then what everyone thinks when you say FL. There are neighborhoods ranging from all classes in all parts of town, plenty of selection as far as housing and apts. Entertainment is easy, there are plenty or clubs and night life as it is a college town.
