Consistently one of the lowest crime rates in the - 12/23/2006

Over the last 20 years the Los Angeles metro area has grown outward to where Thousand Oaks is no longer a rural community but rather more of a suburb. While it's crime rate is still very low, I think a resident needs to be more cognizant of his surroundings than he would need to be say 10 years ago. Much of the property crimes seems to be caused by transients coming into the city to commit a crime and then fleeing back to LA. Crimes against persons in Thousand Oaks are very low and appear to usually be between individuals who know each other rather than random acts of violence.

The best library ever. There is a full selection of new books to catch up on. Website to find out what is available, place books on hold or make requests for future purchases. New children's section with huge aquarium, reading section and reading room. Fantastic.

Summer gets hot but not very humid. Winter is ok but you need to dress up in the evening. Does not rain much.

It is very expensive to live here, though beautiful. The city is very concerned with development. Most people here drive into the Los Angeles area for entertainment, doctors etc...

Thanks to prop 13 - 8/3/2006

As a child in the Midwest, the dream was to go to school in California. The best education is the US. How things have changed. All that $ that used to go to schools is gone to shore up the low property taxes. While the intent was admirable the result was catastrophic and the schools are mediocre at best. What place are US schools now compared to the rest of the world...23rd I think.

Great Place all-around - 5/19/2006

It is one of the safest cities (population over 100,000) in US to live in, ranking in the top 3-5, if not #1-3, in the last 10 years. Great place to raise a family, clean air, slow growth, strict building codes, friendly people, good shopping areas. Drawbacks may be the price of homes, but then ... any place good in CA is expensive. School systems, from grade school to colleges, are also very very good. Traffic is starting to build up, but still good. Depending on where, nice hills and West Lake is close by. Temperatures are milder than in San Fernando Valley, cooler by 10-15 degrees in the summer. Most evenings have nice cool breeze; air conditioner maybe goes on about 15 days total during the summer. Surrounding communities, such as Westlake Village and Agoura are also very good, and peaceful. I've lived here for over 15 years and love it.
