| Wichita....I great place to live and work - 7/25/2007
Wichita is going through a boom right now. There are lot's of job's available and a strong growing economy. The issue with Wichita is simply the fact that we need qualified workers coming to town to work in the aerospace industry. There are hundreds if not thousands of aerospace jobs available due to the aircraft industry.....especially the private aircraft sector. The medical sector is growing in the Wichita market as well. If you look around the city there is new construction happening everywhere! The city outpaced the states job growth 2 to 1. Wichita is not a place to be over looked!!!!

| Wichita is ok..! - 6/1/2007
The Good: Housing is inexpensive,Traffic isnt too bad,Many Places to eat,Good Shopping.Great Zoo,Not alot to do but the city is trying!
The Bad: No scenery,(Mountains, etc)Weather extremes.Winter can be mild but..
Theres hardly ever a perfect day its really hot or rain or very windy!
It's very far to go anywhere(Daytrips,Sightseeing)
If you are from the East Coast or California you might like the housing cost!
Keep your Kids out of Wichita schools and live in Derby,Haysville,Park City..
A short drive from Wichita.
Wichita has a drug/Homeless problem like most cities.

| Riverside - 5/8/2007
I grew up on the far northwest side of town, never really having familiarized myself with this part of the city. Recently I relocated back to Wichita and am living in the Riverside area. It's fantastic! The diversity of people you can meet just by taking a ten minute stroll around the block surprised me. The area has a refreshing, old-time feel about it which is great. Great coffee shops and bakeries are within walking (or bike-riding) distance, plus it's close to all of downtown's museums. I especially enjoy being only a seven minute drive away from Old Town's theater, restaurants, boutiques, and bars.

| Good place to live...if you can find a job - 4/11/2007
This is a town with lots of potential that no one really knows how to unlock. Outsourcing and low paying jobs have put a big strain on the economy. There are some family friendly activities such as cowtown, bontanica...etc. but due to the financial strain on most families these activites become expensive and unnessesary. Even though the cost of living is relatively low, so are most incomes, and because of this spending is a lot more constricted. It's a good place to raise a family if you have a secure, well-paying job...otherwise, think twice before you move.

| Cultural Diversity Problems - 1/15/2007
I moved here seven months ago and I am very sadden at the racial division in this city. I have found the races are very open about their desire to remain separate. Very sad and shocking. There is also no Macy's, Nordstroms, Marshall's. Do your research!

| Cultural life has promise but government leaders a - 9/25/2006
Wichita has a cultural life but the city and county government leaders are begrudging about its support so it makes it embarassing to live here. The people are very friendly. Shopping is just so-so but there the restauruant scene is bountiful. If you want sophisticated, it never makes it here at all. Their idea of good theatre is if it gives you at least three belly laughs. The museums work hard and get little respect and there are noteworthy elements of all of them, especially Old Cowtown, a definate national attraction already but nobody wants to believe it.

| Nice--but too flat for me - 6/30/2006
Wichita, KS is a quaint little city--but it's too flat--no mountains. The cost of living is relatively low and there are many events and attractions here. However, the state has an income tax and property taxes. Traffic is not a problem--but it's growing and has created newer highways for the growth. It is still the "Air Capitol of the World."

| Very Nice - 5/15/2006
I've been in Wit for almost a year now on TDY. My current home is in Pleasanton, Ca. The Wit area is far better than expected and I've grown to like it very much. People here are down to earth and friendly. A wave or Hi is almost an natural action. seldom here spanish and is a very nice change from the over run Calif state. I enjoy hearing my language and ability to easily understand people. I felt like I was in a 3rd work country in Ca.
Looking to retire here or close by. HAve seen alot of nice homes and have to rein myself in from buying now.

| Wichita is "OK" - 5/6/2006
Wichita, KS is not such a bad place to live...a smaller city with surrounding countryside/farms and ranches. You experience all 4 seasons. But, it is flat, some trees, and wind...not to mention the threat of tornadoes. I miss the mountains and major greenery of the East coast. But, it's better than Vegas...I used to live there--never again! (Too high cost of living, smog, traffic, etc.)
So if you are considering Wichita...it's a nice place...just a little too flat.

| Wichita's Pro's and Con's - 3/20/2006
Wichita has it's pro's and con's - as with any other city. As a relative newcomer to this city (my family moved here in 2000), I've noticed a few things I'd like to mention.
Although the economy is still recovering from all the aircraft layoffs (whether or not you want to believe it was caused by 911), it's encouraging to see the city at least consider other industries as options to replace - or at least compete with - the aircraft industry. Wichita does tend to be more service-industry heavy, which makes for a volatile economy since the service industry is the first to suffer during layoff's or a "bear" market.
Housing tends to be decent - even when you consider that it has a tendency to be overpriced in the newly developed areas.
Although it's population is more diverse than the areas that surround Wichita (which isn't saying much), it still has its share of segregated areas that are over-represented by low-income minorities, and crime continues to be a problem in these areas.
The schools are in a constant battle - whether its over science vs intellectual-design; or underfunded vs overfunded schools; or the zero-tolerence policy; or underpaid teachers vs overpaid administrators; or school busing. I, personally, am very disappointed in the state of the public school systems in Wichita - but its still better than some of the schools my children attended in the South!
There is potential here if you can get over the small mindedness of the some of the residents.

| Taxes in Wichita - 3/18/2006
The Sales Tax in Wichita is 7.3%. It is temporary to pay for the arena that is scheduled to be built. You know it will go back down after 3 years to 6.3%. You must also believe in the tooth fairy.

| Kansas Is The Best - 2/10/2006
I've been stuck in New York for years and have gotten truly fed up with these liberal-types and all of their "science" and all of that other communistic folderol. Kansas is the best because it teaches Creationis --- er ---intelligent design as an alternative theory to the theory of evolution. I think this is only fair, since a theory is just a theory and all young people should be exposed to as much unproven hogwash as their elders can muster up with a straight face. I'm going to move to Kansas because I want to be in an intellectually honest place where I can teach my flat earth theory rather than this round earth nonsense that those Euro trash explorers conned us with all of those centuries ago. And he whoever that shall changeth a word of this, our creator's divinely-inspired missive, shall have flaming jackals inserted into their hoo-haw. Thank you
