Kid friendly community... - 9/29/2012

I've lived as a renter in this community with my wife and kids for the past 5 years, and we are satisfied that this community provided us with great shopping centers, kids friendly parks and easy access to restaurants. In addition, for those who own a car, there are plenty of street parking, but alternate parking is in effect twice a week. We have had no problems whiles living here. The neighbors are all friendly. There is even a neighbor who keeps a check on what's going on on out block; he is the neighborhood watchman... lol. For instance if you over slept on a day you're suppose to move your car, he'll ring your door bell to avoid the city from ticketing you. All in all, it's been great living here although we are in the mood to get our own place.

Bensonhurst, Brooklyn - 2/14/2010

I love living here! Everything we need is just around the corner, from food markets to the subway. Coney Island is a ten minute train ride, and a trip into the city is only 45 minutes. Best of all, you don't need a car!

Crime in Kings County, NY - 1/31/2009

Kings County, NY is Brooklyn, NY, one of the five boroughs of New York City. The crime statistics for the county do not reflect actual conditions in the entire county. Rather, certain neighborhoods in Brooklyn have much higher crime rates - murder, rape, robbery, weapons charges, theft - than most other areas of the county. Generally, those higher-crime areas are lower-income or have higher gang activity. Those neighborhoods include Bedford-Stuyvesant, Flatbush, East New York, and to a lesser extent, Canarsie. Other areas have very LOW crime rates - Brooklyn Heights, Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, for example. The high crime rates of the few areas skew the average crime statistics for the county/borough way out of proportion. I have lived in Bay Ridge and Bensonhurst for the past 12 yrs and have always felt safe, never been robbed or otherwise assaulted, never heard a gunshot. You just have to be aware of your surroundings, as in any large city.
