Retirement cost of living. - 2/19/2010

Burke is located in Fairfax County Virginia outside of Washington, D.C. Fairfax has one of the top school systems in the country. The quality of life in Fairfax is high with numerous entertainment and recreational activities. However, the cost of living is high, too expensive for those who retire.

Great Place to Live and Raise a Family (but expens - 6/1/2007

Burke is a great place to live in the DC suburbs. It has a small town feel and boasts top Fairfax County Schools, beautiful parks, libraries, and many commute options to downtown DC, the Pentagon, or other Northern Virginia locations. Only limitation is the cost of living ($450k gets you a townhome and most single family homes are in the $600s...as of summer 2007).

Beware of the public school - 4/10/2007

Fairfax County claims to have an outstanding school system. This is only partially true. If you have a handicapped child, watch out. My child was hositalize for a month after the school system ignored one of the world's leading experts. The school system then falsified my child's records and public officals refused to addressed what happened. When a child died at an elementary last year, the police were not allowed to investigate wheather failed to fullfil its obligations. If I had had a $100,000 for a lawyer, I may have been able to save that child's life.

Nice Place - 9/15/2006

Its a DC Suburb. If you're looking for more besides endless swaths of condos, single family homes and strip malls, forget it. Mostly white, home to a LOT of military officers who commute to the Pentagon. And if you do want a house, you will probably need to be a millionaire
