Corpus ,fishing ,beaches ,outdoors plenty. - 10/24/2022

I grew up here and come visit all the time. Some say roads are bad but they have been redoing most all major roads ,now they are working on residential streets. Some say property taxes are high ,but they are less Ft.Worth ,El Paso and Austin ,on par with Houston ,San Antonio. The city does needs more light manufacturing and white collar jobs though.Plenty of construction and heavy industry jobs.Fishing is great with many piers, bays ,jetties, surf fishing and offshore fishing. There has to be 1000 places to fish in a 50 mile area. There is 100 miles of beaches with N Padre and Mustang Island ,even a private island unihabited island (San Jose Island). There are 3 state parks ,1 National Seashore, and Aransas Wildlife Refuge where the whooping cranes winter.Yes it gets hot especially in July Aug.,1/2 of Sept.but real nice rest of year only cold month is Jan.Feb, where you might have 2-4 days of freezing weather.Corpus Christi just needs a few more attractions ,though there is the Aquarium,Ball Park,Lexington Museum, and water park.

Corpus Christi: A Natural Beauty - 1/28/2021

I grew up in Corpus Christi and still return occasionally. Corpus Christi is probably the most underrated city in Texas. Probably because it is not the picture of a stereotypical Texas city. Corpus Christi is a deep South Texas city. It is located in what is referred to as the Coastal Bend section of Texas. Corpus Christi is referred to as the Sparkling City By The Sea. First time visitors get a bit taken back at the size of the city. Corpus Christi is large in population (over 300,000) and space. The city is expansive. I read an earlier review that referred to CC as a “small city”. That is completely wrong. Corpus Christi is among the most natural beauty cities in Texas. It also has a few cool man-made beautiful sites. When you enter Corpus Christi along the coast, you drive over the coolest bridge in Texas, the Harbor Bridge. From the Harbor Bridge, you see the USS Lexington (WW II era aircraft carrier), Whataburger Field (among the top three minor league baseball stadiums in the country), and an incredible view of Downtown Corpus Christi and Corpus Christi Bay. One of the most beautiful drives in a Texas city is Ocean Drive in Corpus Christi. Ocean Drive has eye-popping views of mansions, Cole Park, windsurfers on Corpus Christi Bay (among the top five cities in the US for windsurfing), McGee Beach (that’s right, there is a beach in downtown), t-head and l-head where sailboats, yachts, and fishing boats dock, downtown Corpus Christi and the aforementioned Harbor Bridge. Corpus Christi is the hidden gem of Texas. It is a fantastic city to visit. Nearby Port Aransas, Padre Island, and Mustang Island are home to some of the best Texas beaches. Lots of natural beauty for sure. Corpus Christi is also one of the better Texas cities to reside in. The petrochemical industry is active, but here is an example of good planning: the refineries are wisely located on the Nueces River and away from the the active areas of the city. You don’t notice them like you do in most southeast Texas coastal cities. Corpus Christi is isolated on the Texas map, and it is an awesome visit for business and pleasure.

Corpus Beaches - 6/6/2018

Corpus Christi is a small city on the shores of Texas with a very nice bayfront. The winters are cloudy bringing much cooler air. The summer months are brutally hot but the hidden treasure of Corpus is their Padre Island Mustang Island & Port Aransas beaches which are absolutely beautiful with a constant breeze where you can drive up on the beach. If you like doing a little surfing or just love beaching it this is a water wonderland for summer vacations. John Rupolo

Brackish Water Fishing - 12/11/2015

I moved to Corpus a couple months ago. Applying at other Texas Cities at are normal. In order to fish where fresh water meets salt water , means driving many miles. North of the city before the refineries is all commercial. Farther south equals 30, 40, or 50 miles. Came from a bayou area. In less than 5 miles, I had many brackish and salt water fishing spots. City parks, behind shopping centers, brackish and salt water was all over. I like throwing jigs for bass and reds, and shrimp for cats and black drum. Board Silly.

seems like a dead end - 5/7/2015

Have never lived here but have visited family here dozens of times over the last 40 years and the place never seems to change. Probably a good place to retire especially if you like to fish. Cheap housing though electric and taxes are high. People here are nice. Younger family members who grew up here have all had to move from CC to find good jobs, there is very little here for college grads compared to Houston, Austin, DFW or even San Antonio. Have been here 6 times in the last year and have seen one new building going up during those trips. There is a nice jogging or bike trail along the bay that does not get much use. In 2010 Corpus was voted the fattest city in the country by Mens Health Magazine. That has not changed much.

unless you are hispanic or/and a meth lover this i - 4/28/2015

Cctx seems to turn out like the new Gotham.... Crimes, greedy, ugly and psycho people everywhere. And yes if you aren't hispanic (no matter how friendly you are!) you are just screwed in this town! I lived there for over one year, my experience crime almost doubles over night, police isn't doing anything but eating Tacos, i even was afraid to to step outside during daylight without my husband. The roads and neighborhoods are just getting worse and worse, no one cares about anything anymore, the whole town is trashy and dirty and falling apart and drugs become more and more popular! People are so under educated and this reflects the town, Corpus is all about dumb people and druggies! A lot of shooting and dead people. The one and only real attraction there is : the beach, gets, if at all, cleaned once a year for the spring breakers but the rest of the year nothing! Places are expenisve to live in and not well maintained either. Also you'll find a bunch of drunken people driving around risking everybodys life.

Roads - 7/27/2014

Worst roads in the whole state of Texas for a town of more than 25000.Absolutely unbelievable ,even the streets in the two country clubs are pathetic. Potholes everywhere you turn..Miserable road upkeep, absolutely no street sweepers,no median or lawn mowing by city done on public byways.Whole city looks like it's broken down ,fading away into a junkyard.CCTX is nothing more than one giant pothole with a mess of dirty disposable diapers thrown in and steaming in the summer heat. You see disposable diapers thrown around everywhere. Very disgusting throw away culture here.

A great Place to Live or Visit - 6/6/2014

I live on North Padre Island in Corpus Christi. The cost of living is great, the climate is wonderful year round. Allergies are few and short lived (grasses) There are lots of recreational things to do. The National Seashore, rated 2nd best beach in the world, fishing year round, ample places nearby for deer, turkey, bird hunting within 1-2 hours plus all conveniences of a large city, just 3 miles over the bridge to the mainland. We have the Naval Air Station , Air Defense base and the Coast Guard right here across the bay. Texas AM Corpus Christi is here and a world class University attracting students for across the country and world. Unemployment is low, but lots of opportunity as the Oil and Gas business booms in south Texas. Having lived in DFW, Central Oregon, Roswell, N, M, and growing up on the Island of St. Croix, USVI, Corpus Christi offers a little bit of everything I loved about all those regions.

New resident - 2/22/2013

The Corpus Christi area is a great place to live, especially if you like the water. This is one of the best fishing areas in the country. Most beaches are accessable to the public becsuse they are considered public highways. The area enjoys a strong economy mainly because of the booming oil business. The Port of Corpus Christi is the tenth busiest in the country. I have heard criticism from outsiders that the area is poluted by industry, however I neither see nor smell any evidence to support that statement. On the contrary, fish and birds are abundant and no prohibition on eating fish from the bay exists. Downside, humidity is usually around 80% most days and temps range from low 50's in the winter to the 100's in the summer. Stay in the shade and the wind will keep you cool. Average wind speed is 12 mph. Dining here is relaxed and casual, jeans and boots. Seafood is abundant, BBQ has it's own local flare and the TexMex is worth the drive.

A City That Could .... - 8/5/2012

Corpus Christi is a great city that has never really seen its potential. Infrastructure is crumbling but the citizens are addressing that issue now and over the next 25 or so years. Weather is only insufferable three months out of the year and the rest is great. Wind does blow all the time but you get used to throwing away the hair spray and just let Mother Nature give you the style of the day. Corpus Christi is really great for those that like hunting, fishing, windsailing, and the beach. Golf courses are nothing but goat ranches. If you look hard and listen to the locals there are some really good restaurants in town. Plenty of health care with what seems like a hospital on every corner. One even specializes in children and actually serves all of South Texas. Cost of living is below the national average but the neighborhood and design selection of homes are limited. Not enough mid to high end condos but plenty of those you would not retire in. School system is probably about average and private schools are available for those that think they serve their kids better. Crime is a problem but the cops are working hard at it. It does get a lot of play on the nightly news but that may be because they can't think of anything else to talk about. Come on Down and Enjoy South Texas

The Salt Water Humidity Has Saved My Face! - 5/24/2012

I am 32 years old and just moved here 3 weeks ago. The weather here is a little windy but beautiful even on "bad" days. I have had acne since i was 11. Doctors have told me within the last 5 years that there was nothing else I could do. One week after being here it is completely clear. I just needed to move by the ocean I guess

Nice place to live, but too hot for my taste - 9/5/2011

Corpus is a nice, smaller city to live in overall. But it stays too hot/warm for my taste for too much of the year. There are good schools here, the bay, nice neighborhoods, but even these favorable aspects can't make me want to stay. I feel trapped indoors as I don't like to spend time out in the heat.

air quality - 1/13/2010

I live on south padre, near the beach, where there is a wind off the ocean, the majority of time, My ranking of the air wuld have to be 99.9 of 100, by sperlings comparison ranking in corpus christi of 29 of 100. I am thinking a ranking of air quality must be made clearly stating the variables, otherwise irs an invalid statement. I don't want to sound critical but really 29 ? Corpus Christi, where the air is off the ocean
