Great Small City To Call Home - 9/24/2022

As a 6th generation AZ Native, someone who had the misfortune of growing up in Phoenix, and who has lived all over the VV and Flagstaff, I think Cottonwood is great little city to call home. It's not big like Flagstaff or Prescott, home prices have gone up, but we embrace our cops and lesbians. I take offense at some comments posted here. If you don't like us, good riddance!

Not a place for retirees - 7/20/2021

I have lived in Cottonwood since 2002. When I first moved here, this place was wonderful. Quiet, friendly and affordable. The weather was good with plenty of sunshine and a decent amount of precipitation. Nowadays, housing costs have gone through the roof (thanks in great part to Sedona workers who cannot afford Sedona prices which are even worse), summer temperatures have increased (this year in June up to 114 degrees) and precipitation has decreased, water service costs have tripled and medical care is mediocre at best. If you are a young, hip professional with a degree and a connection or a family with a decent income, the city will welcome you with open arms. If you are a low income senior or a low income, disabled individual, forget Cottonwood and look elsewhere. Services provided are all geared towards families and children, very little is done for the elderly, the poor and the disabled by the city or the county even though the city continues to have surpluses in its budget. I will be relocating within the next few months to a more inclusive community where seniors are welcomed rather than relegated to pasture.

The best LGBTQ community in all of Arizona!!! - 10/24/2020

Actually Cottonwood is a great place because of the great LGBTQ community. Without this aspect Cottonwood wouldn't be anything really, except a Wal-mart. The LGBTQ community has turned Cottonwood, Clarkdale and Jerome into a thriving artistic creative, meaningful, and insightful place to live for everyone. The only bad thing about Cottonwood are the 20 roundabouts they installed on the 260 to get to I-17. Its a horrible experience driving around these roundabouts with the huge trucks almost overturning and jackknifing. Whoever had this brilliant idea about these horrendous roundabouts should really get some serious psychological help. In summary, Cottonwood and the surrounding areas are an up and coming place to live because of the growing LGBTQ community, thank you for turning this place around!

Why I Love Cottonwood - 2/17/2019

I moved here in 2017. Found the place by accident. Came to Az for a women"s healing retreat at Sedona Ranch dot org and stayed a few days at the Little Daisy Motel in Cottonwood (Great place & could have my 2 little dogs} Fell in love with the town because of how friendly the people are and how close it is to Sedona. So much Natural Beauty around this area without the big city crap. It has everything I need from lots of good restaurants to a 24 hr walmart in case I need something in the middle of the night. there are several drug stores and grocery chains as well as on old town with many wonderful unique shops. It even has a Great health food store. It's only an hour to 3 big cities and only 20 min to Sedona. The pace of life is much slower here but it has good medical and so much stuff to go explore. I Love it here but it is starting to grow fast and that is somewhat of a concern to me.

Beware of Cottonwood - 2/20/2015

I have lived in many cities, due to job relocations, and Cottonwood is the WORST I have ever lived in. Lots of drug addicts, city and county is run by Lesbians, and the police are corrupt. Stay far away!

Has its ups and downs - 10/18/2010

Cottonwood is a nice place to live, however there is a pretty bad meth problem, which I suppose is common in smaller towns nowadays. Though in my day to day life, I never experienced it, mostly just noticed it when I worked in the ER and from other people. Supposedly more than half of the people who applied at the Home Depot in town when it first opened failed their drug test so there ya go. However, generally speaking I enjoyed living there. Most people are very friendly and it is perfectly situated in Arizona. The weather is great, not as hot as Phoenix but still pretty hot in the summer, though not much snow in the winter. But extreme hot and extreme cold are both within a day drive away. There are many attractions and neat cities nearby to visit.

THE GOOD LIFE - 1/22/2010

where to begin, no matter what you or your family enjoys you will surely find it in the greater cottonwood area. the vacation options are only limited by your imagination and your budget. you can stay in historic hotels like the view or cozy bed and breakfast's that are every where.the people are rather friendly over all and the crime is relativly minor when considerng the size and the cultural diversity of this hidden gem in the high desert. if you like hiking there is miles of trails on near by mingus mtn. if youre into fishing the verde river or the lagoons at dead horse ranch state park can entertain for hours. if you want fine dining than nicks steakhouse is the place to be or for a little more family style environment you can check out the tavern grill. for the entertainment the old fashoned theator calle the big show always has the latest movie showing.after living in cottonwood for thirteen years i was still learning new stuff daily until i moved away last year and i still stay up on events as much as possible. in short if you are middle or upper class you will find cottonwood and the verde valley a great place to visit or to live. if you are in the lower class as much of us are these days i would recomend looking some where further south for a place to live but visiting would be great all the same.

Cottonwood is perfect for recreation - 8/29/2007

Cottonwood is the perfect place for recreation. With Arizona's 300+ days of sunshine, there is so much to do if you are an outdoor person. Hiking in the red rocks of Sedona (12 miles away) or the pines of Mingus mountain (10 miles away), quad tours all over Cottonwood, Jerome and Sedona, fishing at Dead horse ranch state park, shooting clubs (both guns and bows), motorcycling 10 months per year, swimming in the Oak Creek at the many state parks in Sedona, tubing down the Verde River. In the deep summer, Cottonwood will get to over 110 degrees, but within an hour, Prescott is in the 90s, Flagstaff and Payson are in the 80s. Cottonwood has little in the way of dining, but there are 4-star restaurants in Sedona and 5-stars in Scottsdale (75 minutes away). For indoor culture, spend a weekend in Scottsdale, Prescott (60 minutes away) or Flagstaff (60 minutes away). Cottonwood is the perfect central location for recreation in Arizona.

Cost of living catch-22 - 8/29/2007

Cottonwood economics does not seem to be possible. The smallest house is over $250,000 here, yet there are no jobs paying much above minimum wage. The only way to survive here is to own your own business or tele-commute. Arizona's taxation is structured as a tourism state, meaning sales tax is high, while property tax and income tax is low, so visitors pay the lion's share of the state's income. Great place to live right between Sedona and Jerome, but bring your own job or business.

weather's great - 4/18/2006

The weather is great here. The sun shines for most of the year. OF course by having this there isnt often a lot of rain. Which in turn means that the only trees that are there on there own are the ones by the river. The verde does run all year.
