Cushing is conveniently located, one hour west of Tulsa, one hour east of Oklahoma City, and half hour south and east of Stillwater, (home of Oklahoma State University).
Serving the community is a city council style government with a professional city manager. The departments consist of water, electric, street, parks and recreation, as well as a capable police and fire department. The City of Cushing supports and maintains within this structure:
a. Senior Citizens Center: A spacious building for senior recreation and meals, along with many other benefits.
b. Youth Center: A facility with a large basketball court, 4 handball, racketball courts, an aerobics/meeting room, weight rooms (men and women), exercise machine area, and the Lachenmeyer Art Center, which has a full time artist assistant. Also, serveral baseball, football, soccer practice fields. Within this system is a baseball quadplex which is as beautiful as any in the state of Oklahoma.
c. Cushing Aquatics Center: A water park constructed in 1999, which has two three story slides which cascade from the remenace of the former Bintz Pool and a zero entry. The only one of its kind between Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
d. The beautifully remodeled Cushing Public Library, a three story art deco designed building. It also has several meeting rooms for use.
e. Civil Defense.
Cushing sits upon a major aquafier which supplies an abundance of fresh, pure water through the City's waterwell system.
The Cushing Country Club offers a Perry Maxwell designed golf course (designer of Southern Hills in Tulsa) as well as a pool, tennis courts, fishing pond, pro shop, dining room and bar. Membership is very reasonable.
The Compliance Department of the City works hard to clean up Cushing and see that non conforming structures brought into compliance. I.e. Tear down falling down structures and keep the grass and weeds down.
Also included is an animal control officer.
Thr civic clubs and fraternities include: Elks, Lions, Rotary, and Masonic Lodge, as well as several sororities. Cushing is also home to an active API group.
For you Cowboys and Cowgirls who like rodeos, we have a big one which was announced by Clem McSpadden until his death in 2008.
The Cushing community has several doctors, from general practice to specialists. Within the city is an urgent care and major hospital.
The Cushing Public School system produces scholars and athletes. Academically, our graduates are armed with the tools necessary to succeed. $100,000 plus a year is given out in academic scholarship. Athletically, we have a Westling juggernaut as well as successful athletes in every field, (excepting aquatics).
Cushing is a religous community with several denominations represented within its Churchs, Baptists, Disciples, Methodists, Presbyterians, LDS, and Assembly.
Cushing is the pipeline capital of the world because it is. Go to Google Earth and check out the oil tank storage.
Cushing has an airport with skydiving but no commercial flights.
The gas and trash are privately contracted and reasonable.
Disadvantages for Cushing are:
a. No rail service.
b. Highways to the North, South, and West are two lane.
c. Downtown is falling into disrepair. Highway 18-33 being rerouted 4 blocks north, has moved business to Main Street and off Broadway. Although downtown has many good antique malls and used book stores, well worth perusing.
OVERALL:
Cushing's citizens are friendly and caring. Although, conservative by nature, its citizens are not intolerant of other life styles.
The housing is varied. There are several beautiful new housing areas and older areas. The marginal homes are being eliminated and replaced. The street and infrastructure are in good shape.
Cushing is convenient for the retired with low cost of living, excellent human services, and mostly mild weather.
It has had a few spectacular crimes, but it is mostly a quiet community, a nice place to call your hometown.

| Life in Cushing - 2/18/2009
Unlike some of the other uneducated people who have access to the internet, I love living in Cushing. I have a 12yr. old and a 9yr. old. They love living in Cushing. We have never had any bad experiences. This is a small town, with a small town mentality. The majority of the people are very welcoming. We have a Supercenter and plenty of other shopping in our area. Our dining choices, although too few, are all good establishments. There are many people willing to help one another, and you will never go hungry here. There are a few people here that do not know how to make the best out of life, but for the most part we are a good little town, with lots of welcoming people.

| Life in Cushing Ok. - 7/30/2007
The Kids here have nothing to do, Except the pool in the summer. So, at about 12 years old they make a big day of planning a fight in the park. And then as they grow into teenagers they learn that if they stay high enough then they won't care anymore that they have nothing at all to do. If someone is reading this because they plan to move here then my warning is don't, but you will probably never see this, it will be deleted before you get a chance because Cushing ok. likes to keep it's dirty little secretes quiet here. In fact, most of the time we don't even get news reports about things going on in our own town! We have to guess at which rumar may be the correct one, until we get enough information to make up our minds on what really happened within our town. And the news paper office does not send out weekend reporters so if something happens on the weekend, it will never be reported! And the rich business owners here do not want newcomers to bring business competion so new business is usually voted out!So of course we have no growth.(very few jobs)We have very limited places to shop, very limited places to eat, and one walk in theater with one screen that will play the same movie for weeks! I guess to give the multitudes of people who live here a chance to see it(many many times)elementary schools seem to be good but as soon as your child goes to 6th grade middle school, the bullies will sworm but no one will see a thing!EVER! Our tax is 9%,very high compared to most of the nation! And if you happen to notice how many cemetaries are in Cushing as you enter here...take head, there is a reason..I have never in all my life seen so many people die as they do here...young and old, Why? I have'nt figured that out. Cushing hospital is...well...they fly ALOT of patients to Tulsa, Maybe they don't have the knowledge or the equipment to treat alot of things...I don't know what the deal is there. But I have learned that if I have a real medical condition, I may as well get myself to Tulsa, because that's where I would most likey end up anyway..I have heard they ARE good on the OB floor tho.Well, that's enough from me, I better stop now, the truth could get me sued or something. But be warned..Lots of secretes here.
