We Love Laguna Niguel - 11/3/2020

I have lived in Laguna Niguel for over 20 years. After living in many of the surrounding cities, I found Laguna Niguel to be more laid back making it the perfect area to raise my son and to purchase our home. We are just minutes away from local beaches and we get that great ocean breeze! Low Taxes, No Mello Roos, Community Pools, Parks, Hiking Trails -Aliso Wilderness Park, Great Family Owned Restaurants and shops. Surrounded by Mountain and Ocean Views! Laguna Niguel has been a wonderful and safe place to live for us

For us, this is a perfect place to live. - 8/30/2020

This is, we think, a wonderful place to live. Friendly people, convenient to shopping, restaurants, beaches, etc. Weather is mild and beautiful. Everything is clean and well maintained. Crime is low. Palm trees and flowers everywhere. Only downside is high cost of living.

H.O.A. NIGHTMARE - 2/6/2018

ANYONE THINKING ABOUT MOVING TO LAGUNA NIGUEL HAD BETTER RETHINK THEIR DECISION IF IT IS UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE LAGUNA KNOWLS H.O.A. IT IS THE MOST RACIALLY ABUSIVE HOSTILE LIVING SITUATION YOU CAN IMAGINE . YOU WILL BE AT THE MERCEY OF THE H.O.A. BOARD OF DIRECTORS . THE MANAGING AGENT IS NO HELP SHE IS ONLY THERE TO PROTECT THE BOARD MEMBERS . THE BOARD MEMBERS OF THE LAGUNA KNOWLS H.O.A. WILL SELECTIVELY TARGET YOU AND SELECTIVELY ENFORCE IT'S RULES AND REGULATIONS DEPENDING ON IF THEY DECIDE YOU BELONG LIVING IN THEIR COMMUNITY . IN MY CASE THEY TARGETED ME BECAUSE THEY CLAIM A NEIGHBOR COMPLAINED I HAD PARKED MY CAR ON MY DRIVEWAY ( THE NEIGHBOR REMAINS A SECRET BUT I SUSPECT IT WAS BURT DIRSKE ) AND I WAS CITED TO ATTEND A HEARING . I SENT THEM AT LEAST 50 PHOTOS IN ADVANCE SHOWING OTHER RESIDENTS IN MY CUL-DE-SAC IN FACT EVERY OTHER RESIDENT DOING THE SAME THING I WAS DOING . THE NEXT THING I HEARD WAS BURT DIRSKE ( THE PRESIDENT OF THE H.O.A. ) WITH A SMIRK ON HIS FACE TELLING ME '' PEOPLE LIKE YOU DO NOT BELONG LIVING HERE , YOU WILL NOT LIKE LIVING HERE AND MAYBE YOU SHOULD CONSIDER MOVING '' . MY NAME IS SERGIO ORTIZ AND I HAPPEN TO BE HISPANIC SO I THOUGHT HE WAS WAY OUT OF LINE AND TRYING TO INTIMIDATE ME INTO LEAVING THE NEIGHBORHOOD . WHEN I SHOWED THEM PHOTOS OF THE NEIGHBOR ACROSS THE STREET DOING THE SAME AS I AM DOING THE H.O.A. BOARD'S AWNSER WAS THAT WHEN HE BOUGHT THE HOUSE THE REAL EATATE AGENT PROMISED HIM HE COULD PARK HIS CAR THERE SO IT'S OK FOR HIM AND NOT OK FOR ME . AND THEY BASICALLY JUST LAUGHED AT ME AND TOLD ME TO GO AWAY . WHEN I MADE FURTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT OTHER CARS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKING IN THE SAME WAY THEY JUST IGNORED ME , WHEN I COMPLAINED ABOUT DOGS WANDERING THE NEIGHBORHOOD OFF LEASH THEY IGNORED ME WHEN A DOG RAN THREW MY GARAGE AND INTO MY HOUSE WITH THE OWNER YELLING OUTSIDE ON THE STREET I WAS FORCED TO ENTER MY HOUSE , CAPTURE THE DOG TO THROW HIM OUT . I COMPLAINED TO THE MANAGEMENT CO. THEY JUST IGNORED ME SO I CALLED ANIMAL SERVICES . THE BOARD THEN RETALIATED AGAINST ME AND I HAD THE ANIMAL OWNER CONFRONT ME ABOUT WHY I HAD TURNED HIM IN AND THEN SOME HACK LAWYER SENDS ME A CEASE AND DESIST LETTER . SO I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU CHANGE YOUR MINDS BECAUSE LIKE BURT SAID '' YOU WILL NOT BE HAPPY LIVING HERE '' . BURT IS A FILTHY RACIEST AND THE REST OF THEM ARE NOT FAR BEHIND .

Happy resident for over 26 years - 8/11/2016

I'd like to update and clarify what others have reported about Laguna Niguel. My wife and I moved to Laguna Niguel in 1990; we had just married and both of us owned other residents [Corona del Mar and Fountain Valley, Ca.]. We wanted to start fresh. We are upper middle class [annual adjusted retirement income $115K to $125K], retired [no debt] and could live almost any where; are goals were to live in a good climate, have a nice house [about 3,000 sq. ft. with a view] in a upper-middle class neighborhood. We wanted to be close to shopping, good restaurants and entertainment. Laguna Niguel has all those things. When we purchased our home in 1990 we paid almost $400,000 and for the past 3 years we had unsolicited offers between $1 million to $1.1 million and it would take more than that to get us to leave our lovely home in Kite Hill, Laguna Niguel. The weather is much better than published nationally. They tie Laguna Niguel to Santa Ana a large semi-slum city about 10 miles North/East of here where you would not want to walk on the city streets after dark; while our city is beautiful and safe. It's true it costs a lot to live here, but it's worth every cent! Laguna Niguel citizens often refer to living here as living in Paradise.

Best Place to Retire - 6/7/2015

I retired three years ago. I can live anywhere. I picked Laguna Niguel. The weather is perfect. The air quality better than most places. The ocean is just blocks away. It feels like a small town, and the people are friendly. The only thing it lacks is a downtown, but the plans are in the works. Then it will be perfect.

Watching a City Grow - 8/15/2012

WE moved to Laguna Niguel in 1976, returning to California from a three year assignment in New York City. With 3 young children we were seeking a family friendly community with access to commuting routes to Los Angeles and San Diego. The initial appeal to me was the seaside developments along the coastal hills, which reminded my of the communities of southern France. I watched my kids grow up enjoying the amenities of the area. The beautiful beaches and desert and mountain destinations close by. I'd recommend the community to anyone looking for the best in California lifestyle. Often we've commented that living here is like being on vacation twelve months a year. Now I'm proud that our kids and grand kids are living close by and enjoying this beautiful area.

Laguna Niguel - 8/12/2010

Laguna Niguel is situated on hills over the Laguna & Dana Point coast. It has a continual slight ocean breeze which keeps it under 80 degrees in the summer:)

Very Expensive Area - 4/7/2010

Laguna Niguel is a very pleasant city of about 60,000 people in Orange County California. The weather is beautiful in the winter and rather warm in the summer since our home does not face the west. A large number of trails are located in the city which I make use of when I run. The City is well run and quite responsive to citizen needs it is a little to large. Traffic can be heavy at various times of the day but you live with that. Overall a very good bedroom community but I am looking for something out of California since this state has become tax crazy. An area were the taxes fit the citizens and not for the state to supplement their uncontrolled spending.

Laguna Niguel -- Boring and Pricey - 7/13/2008

Many people choose to live in Laguna Niguel because it is a safe place to raise their children. I was raised here, I grew up here, and let me be the first to tell you that Laguna Niguel, CA is NOT the place to go. Republican suburbia's definition of 'safe' is to make everything extremely boring and expensive -- more expensive than drugs or alcohol. And these days it's all-too common for kids (14+) in the area to throw parties with exorbitantly high levels of alcohol, to smoke a LOT of marijuana to pass the time, or to go to raves and take extacy. I'm no prude, but I've seen things get extremely out-of-hand. Also, without a car, you can't get anywhere, and the gas prices here recently hit &4.77 for regular. Some people here are multi-millionaires who care very little about the $65-80-dollar ding on a weekly basis, but not everyone. Kids here with little-to-no money suffer the most. The transit system is virtually nonexistent. There is no public high school in Laguna Niguel. Kids must splinter off to Mission Viejo, Dana Point, or Aliso Viejo. And all of these schools are over-crowded and underfunded. Most of my classes had over 30 students per teacher.

Great Neighborhood Commentary - 9/17/2007

Laguna Niguel is a beautiful city, located about 10 min from oceanfronts. The city is clean (although it used to be immaculate, as population grows, newcomers seem less caring about their environment) and there is plenty of everything you need to avoid a big commute into the greater ORange County or Los Angeles areas. People are nicer than in the big cities... One thing I am most proud of is that there are no billboards down here!

Laguna Niguel is hard to beat.. as long as you mak - 5/6/2007

Laguna Niguel is a lovely town/City. At 64,000 people in 16 square miles, and only 3 miles from the beach, it has a lot to offer. It has rolling hills, and phenomenal climate - ocean cooled, but warm. People are generally nice, if preoccupied with their own busy lives. But once you settle in, and if you have kids ,you will make friends quickly. AYSO Soccer is huge , as is Baseball and Little League. A wealthy community, it is not for the poor.. homes are expensive, and you are surrounded by gleaming new cars.. We have lived here 11 years, hail from the UK originally, and did 5 years in Silicon Valley . This place is wonderful for raising kids, as long as you inculcate good values before they see all their school friends dropped off in Mercedes every morning..

Retirement Living - 4/29/2007

I am looking for a small city (less than 50,000)with a low crime rate, low housing costs (compared to california) , hiking and running trails, good shopping areas (like walmart, costco, target, etc.), mild temperatures but not extreme heat.

beautiful, expensive and crowded - 8/28/2006

Laguna Niguel has beautiful rolling hills, a mild climate, lots of great restaurant and has wonderful beaches within 10 minutes. It also is very expensive, the people can be rude and homes are close together; lots of traffic and lots of people. Definitely a pretty nice place to live if you enjoy the Southern California lifestyle.
