Leesburg Land between the lakes - 9/29/2008

My city sits between Lakes Harris and Griffin as part of the St. John's river system it helped the city grow. Now we rest between the two top growing communitys in central Florida The Villages and the entire So. Lake County area. With the boom years finnally over we are still evaluating its impact. Some of our problems are losing our countryside to develpers i.e. cr466 and such a flux of new people its hard to tell if the snowbirds left in the summer. Some good points with the flux of diffrent people the diversity and culture ios quite apparent.Leesburg is still is small city and its charm keeps people coming back like me.

Qaulity of life in general - 10/22/2007

Due to poor wages for the working class most people have to work two jobs this includes both husband and wife therefore children lack supervision so the crime rate is slightly up and education is down, with poor marks and high school drop outs, this is my observation as a retiree recently moved here from a northern state

Slow Pace ... Slower Moving People - 10/3/2007

Nice little town surrounded by lakes. Great if you are retired as the majority of the population is 60+. This is largely driven by The Villages (largest retirement community/"city" in the U.S. which is located 10 minutes from here). Big swings in Winter residency. Minimal good shopping and dining options ... more are coming slowly. We are in our 40's and find that we arrived here 20 years too early and are looking for a new place to call home.

Golfer's Paradise - 8/29/2007

There are numerous communities (including my own, Royal Highlands) that boast public golf courses. These are adult communities and offer ammenities too numerous to mention here. It is a perfect environment for an active adult to keep busy indefinitely year round.
