No affordable housing. - 11/30/2019

It's a nice town but all the jobs are either service industry or manufacturers that don't pay well. If you're single and make less than 50,000 a year good luck finding affordable housing with out roommates. A single bedroom apartment goes for $800+

Hi, Moving back to NC to the Moorseville area. Am so excited . I am not from this area . so not familiar with area. So any insite would be greatly appericate. I to go have coffee and shopping at thrift stores and looking at local artist and love to shopp at local small business.

Housing Market? Aren't homes with Lake views what - 8/26/2014

My mom is moving from Mooresville and has her house on the market now. She is joining me in Kansas City and even though the cost of living is more, she needs to live near family. She is sorely going to miss her home in Mooresville with lake views and beautiful pines. It seems like the housing market there is in a slump. Does anyone know why? Being from out of state, it is hard to understand what is happening there. Would love some feedback!

Sleepy town, pricey and congested now - 8/31/2013

Mooresville used to be a sleepy mill town, but now with unbridled development, it has traffic woes and the housing prices have skyrocketed. To live on the lake, you used to be able to build a modest home for fishing, but now you must plunk down about $800,000 to enjoy the over developed land. There is plenty of shopping, but little thought went into having an attractive lay out and suburban sprawl is taking over much of the land. If you have kids, there are some things to do locally, and many people drive on down to Charlotte for cultural events and sporting events.Be advised that there is a nuclear plant nearby, so it that makes you nervous... The hospital has been recently sold to a chain but has a pretty good record for safety and there are plenty of doctors to go around. The schools have scored higher than the other town in the county, and there are private schools in the area, also. There is also some nightlife in the area, but little cultural arts.

Moving to Mooresville from Grand Rapids MI in Octo - 8/5/2013

Husband is being transferred to Mooresville in a month. I know nothing about the area. Have a 1 year old and 2 dogs. Need to find a rental home or apartment in a good area ASAP. Our mortgage in our beautiful 2,500 sq ft home in Grand Rapids now is only $560/month. Looking to keep it in the price range as the pay increase to move is minimal, but want to be in a good area/school district. Willing to rent until the right home comes along, but don't even know where to start looking. Also... info on the area would be great. We have a boat, are the rumors that Lake Norman is really high traffic true? Also, what about roads? Are the outdated? Local business? Is it overun with franchises as stated in a previous comment? Weather? Bugs? Things to do? Nightlife? Any help is appreciated. Not really sure where else to go to help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Well as a southerner, I am a open minded person who likes to hear any good positive conversation as long as it aint about Obama.....I think the problem most northerners have here in the south is our culture and the way folks think and talk including our accents.They come down here and suddenly think everything is going to be the same as where they have come from, well it aint! we have different views and like to talk about each others day and family's.....while yankee's just want to push you forward and forget about whats important like stopping and saying hi or wayving to folks..etc it's just a different culture altogether and thats why when a Yankee officer asked a young confederate private during the war of northern aggression why he was fighting the war? " he said, cause all y'all are here on our land"

Looking for a home in mooresville is it the right - 3/21/2013

Ok too much to take in... But I've been doing so much research lately and so far Mooresville seems like a good place to live ... I'll be looking soon and coming from Long Island NY cause my husbands ready to retire his City Job... We have 5 kids and this won't be easy cause one will be in her 4 th yr of college one will be starting college one will be a junior in hs one a freshman in hs and one prob starting middle school by the time we leave... Taking my kids out go ny from there friends I don't want to bring them to the boonies at this age that would be a very hard transition . I love the fact that mooresville has a lake a boat would be nice to have and we like fishing, it's the schools I'm confused about so many different zip codes just boggles my brain. We are friendly out going people but our frends here are lifelong we've known the same people and hangout with child hood friends from our hometown in Queens Ny I never really cared for the long islanders here but we like to go out and have fun even at our age early 40's for me early 50s for him. I don't want to feel like I'm trapped there with no one around and no where to go are there bars or clubs nearby ? Also school is an issue I don't want to sound prejudice I've grown up in a predominantly black area as a kid and have had great friends BUT Im looking to raise my kids in a more white area . I also see a lot of Asian areas in nc Im not interested in them either I know they can be very clickish I want my kids to feel like they belong as they do here teenagers are not easily taken in new areas . I will be leaving everyone I've known my entire life and so will they I just don't want to make the biggest mistake of my life. School rating reviews are so dumb there is bullying everywhere and teachers who don't care everywhere as a parent from a tough background of people I've learned if teachers don't handle it I will just sayin. On another note I'm just looking for a house large enough with cheaper taxes then our now 1450 sq ft home with our 9k taxes in a good area with an equal amount of education as my kids get here. If someone asks about an area this is what they probably want to know . Anyone with my answers please reply ... And if I do move there you people might just have some fun cause were are fun outgoing people who get along with most and the only way to enjoy life . We may even decide to open up a happening lil business there just be honest when your on these sites cause it is a life changing thing and not everyone can just up and move every couple of yrs this next move for me is going to be my last.

Great place to raise a family - 8/17/2009

Mooresville is a great town to raise a family. Taxes are low, the people are nice and the cost of living is manageable. People of all races, incomes and stages in life live there so it's a melting pot. It's not the best place to be if you're single, but it's a great place for a family. The atmosphere is very laid back, as you would expect at a lake community.

Mooresville is close enough to Charlotte if you need something from the big city, but insulated enough that you don't have to leave much. If you work in downtown Charlotte, your commute will be awful! At least an hour each way! If you can work out of your home, Mooresville is a beautiful place to live, especially on the lake. We have a small cottage on Lake Norman that we have owned for the past ten years. Our oldest son went to High School at Lake Norman High which is known for being academically challenging. If you like the laid back style of the lake, Mooresville is a great place to live. You have all income levels, all types of people living there, but southern hospitality is a main stay. If you're young and single, this probably isn't the best place to live, but it's a terrific place to raise a family and the taxes are low.

Quality of Life - 6/3/2009

My family and I moved to Mooresville from Long Island, NY about 2 years ago. My husband and I like it, but our teenager...that's another story. Mooresville is more like 2 towns, depending upon which zip code you fall under. So much development has been done on the west side of town..but on the east side (Main Street), there isn't too much going on. It's quaint, but due to the current economy, many of the small shops have closed. Hopefully things will rebound. The east side of town is more ethnically diverse than the westside, it's almost like there is a dividing line. However, the people (many of whom are transplants) are very friendly. I really like the neighborhood we settled into, very family oriented. Seeing cows, horses, goats and camels (there is the Lazy 5 Ranch if Mooresville) takes some getting used to since the only beef you see on Long Island is covered in plastic wrap in the supermarket. Note, the town pretty much shuts down after dark...and that's one of the things I like.

Traffic Problems - 1/30/2008

We moved from one of the most high-traffic areas in Florida to Mooresville in 2006 and bought a beautiful home for a reasonable price and found the people to be extremely nice. However, within eight months we sold our gorgous home and returned to Florida, simply because the road system there is about 20 years behind what is needed. We lived in the Charlotte area from the 60's through the 80's and found the road system there to be fairly adequate but the Huntersville-Mooresville road situation needs some serious attention from Raleigh as soon as possible.

Mooresville, NC - 4/10/2007

Mooresville is a city located in Iredell county just north of Charlotte. The popular draw to the city is it being located on Lake Norman and within a close drive to Charlott. Lake Norman is a large and very popular lake. The area has seen tremendous growth over the past few years and continues today to expand. The city itself looks nice, but is overrun by big box stores. The traffic is absolutely terrible, on the roads and now even the lake. City planners are obsessed with development. The infrastructure is at the breaking point with schools and roads being overcrowded.

Coming from New Jersey we love the climate and the many choices of activities- many for free! Traffic is a breeze, at least for those who have experienced real city traffic. Mooresville is only a half-day's drive from the coast, and just two seconds away from Lake Norman, and two hours away from the mountains. An additional bonus is that everyone in this lakeside town is so nice!
