| Not a place you’d want to live - 9/27/2019
I lived in a neighboring area for years. NPR is known for being the dumpy area. Very dirty in most places, lots of violent crimes, and of course it’s cheaper than Pinellas county..but thats Exactly why.

| Great place to live - 5/30/2017
This is a very friendly, safe community. The people are nice. Sims Park is growing every year. The Police are Friendly, and keep us safe.
It is pet friendly everywhere you go. The beaches are clean, and close. You have Green Key Beach which you can walk to. Taxes are low, and affordable. I would recommend New Port Ritchie, Florida to live!

| Don't Come Here - 5/17/2016
I've lived here for quite some time now. The weather is beautiful. They have a nice aquatic center but you must live within the city limits for it to be affordable. I live in the city of new port richey but outside the city limits. The beaches here are few and they're dirty. I've read some of the other comments on here and i can honestly admit they are not far off. It is not a place you should call home. If you do not drive you are up a creek without a paddle. The public transportation is horrible and it will probably take decades for the county to update it... if they update it at all, ever. I feel sorry for the people that must work at night and have to walk miles and miles just to get home. The government is corrupt... no doubt about that. If you want to move to the bay area for Christ's sake don't come here. This place will chew you up, spit you back out and chew you up again and again. The majority of the residents here are stuck here. This place Will suck you down deep into it's bowels and hold you tight forever. Drugs are bad here. I can understand though why so many of the counties residents turn to them. There's no jobs. The government here will stick it to you so hard for the simplest of things. Once your in their system it will take an arm, a leg, and your first born to get out of it. A simple ticket can turn into month's of jail time and your life's savings. You do not want to start a family here. The school system here does not get enough funding and the children pay the price. The divorce rate is high because the quality of life here is horrible. They'll take your kids and shove them in foster care to make a buck because that is where the county makes the most money. Adopting your precious children out. That and court costs, probation fees, etc. The county gets no tourism so they have to make the money somehow. This is no lie! So if you love your children and plan on living a good life don't come here. It'll be the worst decision you've ever made. You'll wind up stuck here struggling to survive like everyone else.

| New Port Richey along US19 Elfers/Holidy - 12/19/2014
I have lived here since 2004 when I bought my house here. I work in Pinellas county but could only afford Pasco at the time. I had only planned to live here for 5 years. Now, since the housing bubble popped, my house has been upside down on its mortgage. It is likely I will never see it the same value again. Since I have a VA loan, I cannot foreclose without owing the government the difference of what it would sell at auction. The crime has risen since 2004 and the old people have died and replaced with renters. The house acrossed from me has had drug activity. Multiple cars, the jeans below the boxers thing and the boom box all weekend all nights that shook my house. Both houses on each side of me are empty. One of the houses was broken into and homeless people where living there 10 ft from my bedroom window. It can be scary to live here. A house down the street has been spray painted since 2009. If you call Pasco County code enforcement they will tell you there is no ordinance against graffiti. I have the email to prove it. The City of New Port richey does have an ordinance but I am not within the city limits even though I have a New Port Richey address. I have to rely on the County Sheriff. I live along US 19 between Elfers and Holiday but have a NPR zipcode. There is a lot of crime here, a lot of businesses that are empty and the gutted out along US19. I do litterally cry alot about my situation and am very depressed because I cannot sell because it's upside down and I cannot foreclose without owing the VA. It's not a safe place for a single women or anyone with kids. Don't leave your lawn mower out if you go in to get a drink of water or else it will dissapear. Oh and the guy behind me runs a pit bull ring but when I called Pasco Animal services he just got out of the truck and talked to the dog owners girlfriend in the front yard but never did a welfare check on the dog in the back even though the I watched him beat the dog through my fence. This place is horrible. Another house had its font door wide open for a couple of weeks, and then there was yellow tape acrossed it. I've also seen toddlers running around in diapers on the street on my way to work unattended. The county will not help the stray cat situation either. Pasco Animal Services is on the other side of the county and they do not take stray cats at all. They have a no kill policy, so their solution is to not take strays. I have gotten 7 cats around my house fixed and then released them back into the neighboorhood because they just keep muliplying. Pinellas and Hillsboro County Animal Services will not take animals from other counties either, so it's a poor county for animals as well. I feel sorry for any human or animal that gets stuck here.

| Horrible place to live - 8/15/2012
I moved here about six years ago and it was the worst decision of my life. Im just now starting to plan my move. I noticed all the trashy people here immediately. Its not just new port richey its all of pasco county. When driving up US 19 from pinellas county you definitely know when youve hit pasco and when you left. The crime here is unbelieveable. There are more police here than ive ever seen any where else and they look to pull you over and ticket you for the smallest things. And they are very rude and unprofessional. There are no jobs here whatsoever. Thats why the crime rate is high. The quality of life here is very poor thats why so many of its residents turn to drugs. Even the people that live in the "nicer" neighborhoods have it bad. All the houses are in foreclosure and everyone goes to the methadone clinic... Even ppl u think wouldnt be involved in that life style. Its bcuz things are so bad here and depressing. All the homeless shelters are filled to capacity and anyone that is able is getting out as soon as they can. They spent more money on their prison size county jail than they do on schools for children. The few beaches they have here are disgustingly dirty. Everywhere you go you see at least 10 police. Some ppl wouldnt find that bad but I for one think they abuse their power. They should lay off some of the police and invest the money into rehabilitating the homeless and helping needy families get homes. Every place that is sopposed to be their to help wether with housing or something like daycare for children so parents can go to work has a waiting list at least 2 yrs long. Before I moved here my life was pretty much perfect. Now im a product of this place called home. some ppl move here and get caught in a vicious cycle of poverty, bad economy and can never get out. I will be moving out of this backwards county asap! And wont ever look back.

Stay away from NPR!I have unfortunatly lived here since 1992 and have seen a steady decline in this area. This area is the sess pool humanity. So many trashy people inhibit this area and its sad because ack in the 80's it was so nice.Taxes are high, all the run down neighborhoods are being taken over by renters.Prostitutes are everywhere along US19 and strip clubs as well. The school system is a joke and wages are way below standard.

| Cultureless - 9/29/2011
New Port Richey is on an ever-declining downward spiral. Everywhere you look it seems that businesses are succumbing to the bad economy and closing their doors. The streets are full of potholes and in need of repair. The homeless population has skyrocketed out of control. It is simply an awful place to live.

| almost a zero - 8/23/2011
there is a tiny bit of quality of life here. and that is because you can leave and go visit the surrounding areas. otherwise, this town is awful. most homeowners, if they can are moving. if they can't yet, there planning on it. or have enough cash on hand to just leave and sell later. i'm one of them. It is still hard to understand how there are so many rejects (PEOPLE) all in one place. real ignorant, people who just do not have any sense of who or what is around them. very odd place. been here 9 years. last 5 years, the town is in the toilet now. very rude, nasty, crude, noisy. with no ability to interact with people or there surroundings. do not even mention the word culture. they have not a clue what that word even means. nor do they care.
save yourself the memory. stay away from west pasco county all together.
good luck else where

| Overview Truth & Sincerity living within the city - 8/10/2011
no one ran for mayor here this last term ! and incumbant quit.
the police here are not crime fighters, more like security quards.
alot of the people, especially under 35 years old. are uneducated (only went as far as 9th-10th-11th grade)alot from out of state *west virginia etc. have vain ignorance. rude, nasty, ignorant, trailer trash every where. i have never spoken this way about someone in my life, but when you see this every day. alot of these people are real dumb a__s . and alot of street people, who are thieves and liars. most people know from West Coast of Florida this area is considered, where all the hicks/red necks live. been known for that as far back as the 60-70's. County is Pasco, known as Trashco County. then you have all the Bikers who ride thru town all hours with there Harley type motorcycles. idiots in pick up trucks everywhere acting like there 16 years old. drugs are everywhere here, with heavy pill mills. alot of people, really alot are receiving or trying to scam receiving SSI and SSD(social security disability). heavy alcoholism here. and a new added population of ghetto people, moving here from Brooklyn, Bronx N.Y etc. the city hall/library area, has cops there all the time to stop the teen age deliquency and drunks stumbling around. all this info is verifiable. just ask any police officer. schools are in big trouble, they have a full time N.P.R police officer that has to be there. a ton of violent teenagers everywhere. most of them there parents are worse then they are. a ton of people on probation, the city/county use the probation fees to help run the city to make up for the loss in everyones home values decreasing affecting taxes. a ton of forclosures. slowly almost every neighborhood is going in the toilet. infected with people who do not care, and drugs. and gangs are springing up in certain neighborhoods. truly the city gov etc have no vision for the future of the area, and the county has no care. county will be helping to invest in the east side of county. not the west county area which is N.P.R. companies will not come here to create jobs. because the area is 10 times more transient then other parts of Florida. the applicants are not trainable, not skilled or educated. retail stores go out of Biz all the time, come and go like crazy. commercial vacancy rate is 60%. and for you single guys! women of N.P.R . most have tattoos, some teeth or no teeth. are high or drunk, been in jail. curse like a drunken sailor etc. and driving here taking US 19 N thru N.P.R . you have crack(the drug) whores prostitution from one end to the other. if you have ever watched the tv program cops. and you think you would be happy being around those people the cops visited. you hit the mother load, here in N.P.R . i have never seen so many problem people all in one place at the same time in my life.
p.s-again this N.P.R within city limits. surrounding areas are not a great deal better.

| New Port Richey - 7/11/2010
We will have lived in New Port Richey, Florida for 3 years this upcoming November. We find the climate, the people, churches, fellowship groups, medical attention, shopping, and anything else we may need inimitable as far as our needs go. We hope to continue living in this wonderful area forever.
There is one thing I am trying to find out about this area though. Due to the tragic oil spill, I wonder how the air quality is here and what are the chances of all these gases people are talking about coming here. Does anyone know?

| New Port Richey - 7/7/2010
If you are looking for low cost housing, low cost property taxes, and low cost insurance then New Port Richey may be a consideration. Everything you need: restaurants, shopping plazas, grocery stores, Walmarts, etc. are all in close proximity.
However there are a few down falls. For one, there are a lot of sinkholes. The further away from the Gulf you get, the deeper the sink holes get. However the further from the water you get, the more your homeowner's insurance decreases.
If you are in search of a spouse, you should consider finding one before you move here. There is not much of a market and what is in the market isn't much. If you are planning to bring children or have children here, you will want to invest in private schools. The education system is not exactly the best, especially for middle and high school.
This area would probably be best if you are in your retirement years. There is plenty of low cost housing, medical specialty facilites, and activities.

| Climate - 8/6/2008
The climate in New Port Richey is ideal for those that love warm weather. During the winter months the weather becomes a bit chilly, but sweaters and light jackets are all that one needs.
The beaches are very accessible, and the water is always warm. Those that like to fish can have a party here. There are also many water sports to indulge in, if that's your way of having fun. Many people have their own boats in their back yards which are channels.

| New Port Richey - Great Place to Live, Work and So - 5/5/2007
New Port Richey and the Trinity area have been experiencing tremendous growth with the positives of new businesses, schools, homes and jobs and have managed traffic and services to keep up with the increased demand. We have bigger and better libraries, hospitals and resturants and activities for all ages. After looking at relocating to Tennessee, I decided I'm much better off here.

| Don't waste your time or money - 1/4/2007
I have lived in NPR, FL since 1978 and I am here to tell you that if you come here, you're crazy. First of all the Insurance Rates in Florida are Out of control. People are paying $3000-$5000/year for Homeowners alone on a $250,000 home. Not to mention the price if homes is rediculuous, and the are is not very nice for the most part. A small 900sqft box is around $150,000. You can make you own decision, but take it from someone who's trying to get out of here.

| New Port Richey Not the Place to Live - 12/29/2006
I have lived in New Port Richey all my life. (42 years) It used to be beautiful; citrus trees, palm trees, beaches and wonderful gulf breezes. People were friendly and children were safe to play outside. Thanks to development, trees are a thing of the past and you can only get to the beaches in a couple designated areas. Same with the lakes; they've all been built around. Traffic is awful because no planning was put into the road systems. You don't let your kids out of your site because most neighborhoods have registered child offenders living in them. Property insurance is unbelievable. Four years ago I paid 560.00 for 175,000 worth of coverage on my house. Last year it was 3800.00 and has been approved for a 50% increase this year. Insurance rates have gone crazy because of the recent hurricanes. New Port Richey is going to redo their flood zones, too. We've lived in our house for over 20 years and it's never had water standing, but we've been told with the new zones we'll be considered a flood zone and will have to insure accordingly. School's are abhorrent. I homeschool our child.

| Great Place to Live - 6/3/2006
Weather from October through May is fantastic. Humidity rolls in in June and lasts through the better part of September. Not much different than the rest of the country. NPR is very convenient to what makes living in FL great. Many great beaches within half hour drive. Close enough to Orlando to make a day trip with ease. Gulf breeze keeps temp and humidity comfortable except for the summer months. Any type of restaurant within a short drive. I moved here in 2001 from PA and have no regrets.

| CRIME IN NEW PORT RICHEY, FL - 1/2/2006
I'm not sure where the information comes from for this town, I have lived here for the better part of 16 years and just in 2005 alone I can't keep track of the murders and other violent crime. The cost of housing has risen three fold in the last 5 years and my homeowners insurance has more than quadrupled in just one year.(150,000.00 policy costs $2600.00 per year now!!!!!) This should be listed as one of the worst places to move!
