| Death By 1000 Incompetenants - 9/1/2020
The pace of its death is picking up. A place that should be moving forward is following the path of Rust belt cities that died. Downtown has potential, but the politicians and well-healed stop that from happening. The long-time local are confused and believe Shreveport society is

I Love Driving By Shreveport, Buildings do look beautiful, it is truly a great city, my favorite thing is the people. What loses the last star is that I did not visit too much of the city.

| Get Out While You Can - 8/13/2019
Shreveport is dying a slow painful death. If you are thinking of relocating here; I would not advise it. Since moving back twenty years ago, I have watch the town deteriorate. There are shooting every night where innocent bystanders are killed. One feels very unsafe when going to Walmart--even during the day. The property taxes are outrages for a town this size because the majority of the population does not work; the city revenue has to come from something. The city water smells really bad, and so does the rates to pipe the water into you house. If you drive throughout the city on the pothole roads, you see boarded up houses or vacant property where a house or business once stood. The city is riddled with trash everywhere. People in Shreveport usually just throws there trash out the window of there car or they dump it on the side of the road because it cost to much to take it to the landfill. If you buy a house today, the same house will be worth less in a year, guaranteed. If you do your research, the statics will show Shreveport is decreasing in population. There are no big companies here to provide the jobs. All of the major employers have move away or gone out of business. Even the riverboat casinos are having trouble staying afloat in the city. The riverboat casinos that employ many thousands of people in the city are showing signs of petering out.

| Butt crack to run from! - 7/20/2019
Heed the warnings and read the reviews. This place is the pit with high crime and filled with judgemental and insular Jesus freaks. And not to mention all the racist Trump voters. Try to sell a house and you are in big trouble. Stay away at all costs!

| Do not move to Shreveport - 4/27/2019
I have lived in this city for almost one year. The crime is real! Home burglary/theft of personal property occurs no matter where you live. Parrish/ state tax is high (almost 10%). Roads are in poor condition and ruin your car. Poorly run government. Almost entire city is a flood zone and it rains often. Do not recommend living here.

| Bad Economy, High Crime, Poor Schools - 12/21/2017
The facts: +7% unemployment. One of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. High drop-out rates, low test scores. Almost no population growth (who wants to live there?). Bad roads and bridges. Poor health (lots of diabetes and obesity). And, save for a few areas, ugly: strip malls (many boarded up), big signs for gas stations and fast for joints.

| Miserable place to live!! - 10/26/2017
I’m military and am from a small town in WY I’ve lived in this hole for 2 years and can’t stand it. This town is severely underdeveloped and the crime is rampant. The roads will destroy your vehicle because they aren’t maintained. These roads don’t have cracks, they have the Grand Canyon separating them so your brand new vehicle gets its alignment destroyed in a month and your tires massive chunks of rubber ripped out. I have a respect for the run down cars that drive around town on 32 inch rims.. (that’s all you see!) the insurance is sky high here because nobody has it, we pay 500 dollars a month for full coverage on a small truck that cost us 95 dollars in Texas. The people are uneducated and brutal. My vehicle has been broken into twice and Almost stolen once. My wallet has been pick pocketed twice. The malls are ghetto, and you can literally hear gunshots down town. This is not a safe town for children. I feel unsafe here. Don’t move here unless Uncle Sam forces you to.. If he does onbase housing is a necessity.. off base housing for a delapitated mood infested apartment goes for 1,100 a month located under a overpass! Make your choice!

| READ BEFORE MOVING TO SBC!! - 2/1/2017
Shreveport/Bossier City is not only the worst place I have ever lived, it is the worst place I have ever visited. Here are some factors contributing to this conclusion:
- Smoking is allowed in every bar/pub/casino. All of them. It is almost encouraged. Spend more than 30 seconds in one and your clothes will smell so bad you will have to tie them in a plastic bag when you get home. The three breweries don't allow smoking, but per local laws must close at 9PM, even on weekends. No other large city in Louisiana allows smoking in bars, which represents how behind Shreveport is by comparison.
- If you are a single non-smoker, good luck. The dating pool is ankle-deep and your only options for mingling are a chain restaurant waiting area or the Louisiana Boardwalk which is an outdoor mall where 30% of the stores are closed-down, even though is was recently built. Open up Tinder and your phone will laugh at you. (Unless you are into big girls with gold teeth who are bending over in their picture to highlight their massive assets.)
- Crime is rampant and you must live in a $1,000+ /month gated community to avoid it. This is where cost of living numbers are deceiving as there exists only extreme ghetto and isolated suburbs/gated areas with no in-between. EVERY public park is is considered potentially dangerous and the locals (even police) will warn you to stay out after dusk. The same applies to both malls.
- ZERO culture. ZERO civic pride. In the first month of my time in Shreveport, I had 20+ people say something to the effect of "You moved here? On purpose? I've been trying to get out my whole life!" There is no culture to speak of outside of "the boats", which are the smoke-filled casinos mostly populated by sad-eyed locals and weekend visitors from Texas. Downtown?! There are 5 buildings downtown with rentable apartments and 4 of them require that you make less than $24K per year. It's like the city is trying to keep it from experiencing revitalization.
- EVERYTHING is slow. Servers. Construction. Drive-thrus. ANYTHING government or customer service related. It is a constant frustration.
As the locals often say: "The only people who hate Shreveport are the people who live here. Everyone else doesn't know about it, or 'hits the boats' and leaves." No joke, I have heard this from 10+ different locals.
To be fair to the people in the area: most locals are very friendly. It is not their fault that this city has such a poor economic/social climate. The main factor is this...Shreveport/Bossier is one of the most populated areas in the country located over 90 miles away from a large (D1) university. This is a big deal as colleges and universities are feeder-systems for economic progress and growth. There are millions of smart people in the South; but this area (aka: the Ark-La-Tex) has unfortunately been left behind by universities major industries. The opposite of universities in on the socioeconomic scale? Casinos. The mentality of "going to the boats" where the house always wins has created a culture of decline. For the sake of the people here, I hope the casinos are shut down and LSU-Shreveport is given a huge grant to change Shreveport/Bossier's toxic atmosphere.

| TRASHY!!! - 12/3/2016
This city has been the trash heap of North Louisiana for decades now and it looks like there is no plans to change that. There are some modern shopping centers in the suburban areas but they are almost all on one very congested monster of a road (Youree Drive), which forbids U-Turns for some strange reason. Otherwise, the biggest claim to fame in this place is the sky high murder rate and the casinos. Most of the people here are very poor/uneducated and about on every corner you'll see a classic "seedy" establishment like a strip joint or a payday loans service. If that's your kind of city, have at it. Otherwise, you might want to save your money and head to DFW.

| Question on moving to Shreveport/Bossier City - 4/4/2016
Hi,
We are looking to retire in the Shreveport/Bossier City area. We are looking there because it is affordable. However, we are very concerned because of all the negative postings from other people.
1) Is the area really that bad when it comes to crime?
2) Are there areas to avoid?
3) Can someone rent a two bedroom apartment in a good area for $650 a month?
4) We currently live in a low-income area of Sacramento, CA which is predominantly African-American. We have encountered direct prejudice from our neighbors since we are white. We are hoping to avoid this problem in the Shreveport/Bossier City area.
Could someone point out what areas to avoid because of crime? We are just looking for a safe, quiet neighborhood where we can live our lives.
Thanks,
DC

| Love it....and have grown to appreciate it - 7/14/2013
I moved to Shreveport about 10 years ago. When I first arrived, I hated it. It seemed so backwards on all levels. From cuisine, culture, shopping, and just everyday life. I moved from the big city and thought there was no way I would survive. After one year, I realized the growth opportunities Shreveport had to offer. With Shreveport being so behind times, anyone who is looking to do a start up business, this is the place for you! The growth potential is off the chart. Even though the community might give off the impression there isn't a great deal of wealth, let me tell you people here have money. They haven't had the opportunity to spend it. There are a lot of families here with parents who want the best for their children. Since moving here, I have witnessed big changes. The movie industry films here on a regular basis. The only drawback is the hot, humid summers. Other than that, it really is a great place to live if you are either young looking to make money or, retired and want to spend money. The area will continue to grow so the opportunities are here.

| Retired Here and love it--Southeast Shreveport is - 3/20/2013
We retired here 3 yrs. ago. First we retired to San Diego suburb to be with family and it was supposed to be the best weather in entire country, but this is even better since in San Diego cold air from Pacific would come in at 3pm every day usu. making it too cold to sit outside! This is perfect climate, no flurries even this year. Northern Shreveport gets more ice than us in far southeast part. And we have the prettiest part by far. Go out Ellerbe Rd. then Norris Ferry Rd. I-49 is not far off of Norris Ferry Rd. and it takes to to any area north and south. There is an amazingly lot of class here, subscribe to SB Magazine to see (stands for Shreveport/Bossier). Bossier City is what's on the other side of Red River. There's walking trails along river and boat tours, casinos if you like them, and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville with white sand and palm trees will open this spring or summer! Yes, palm trees do grow here--like San Diego, I'm so glad! Nice homes in 100's and 200's and much fancier at more. Ours is in 200's but I've never seen so much quality wood moulding/fancy cabinets and fireplaces--real quality! Crime is not around this part of town either. Streets are only problem, concrete cracked and slow to repair but they did a bond issue to fix them recently so that should get better.

| very little - 10/19/2012
I have lived in Louisiana for 15years & overall it is more of a place to retire. It is not a place to raise a family if you like to be active with your kids and expose your children to opportunities of greatness. The schools are behind, there is very little for the kids to do constructive and when it's hot it is ridiculous. The winter seemingly only last for a week or two & there are more community colleges then universities seemingly. There is a church on every corner, filled with politicians. It's great for culture if close down south near New Orleans, as well as for the food but if you're not big on hunting and fishing and museums or eating and going to the boats there is a lot more to see outside of Louisiana.

| Shreveport is Cheap - 4/12/2011
One of the best things about Shreveport, and Louisiana in general, is how cheap it is. My older sister got a pretty nice 1400 sq ft house in a good neighborhood for about $125k, which is something you would simply not see in the Northeast, California, or Florida.

| Nice place to live - 4/7/2011
We have only been in Shreveport for a year, but really like it. Although it is not where we want to retire, we would not be unhappy if there's where we stayed. People are very friendly & helpful; lots to do no matter what you like to do. Don't know anything thing about the schools since we don't have small children. Old Broadmoore is a great neighborhood if you like older areas. Cost of living is good, with housing being very affordable.

The pay is insultingly low. The Caddo Parish Sheriffs are storm-troopers (this is a Republican saying this) they ticket for anything and if you are stopped they treat you like a criminal and you will ALWAYS be ticketed

| Shreveport: Crime - 6/14/2009
The only thing that concerns me about Shreveport is the crime rate. Shreveport retains its "small town" mentality but, when no one was looking, it grew into a big city and has never adjusted to the "bad things" that come with that kind of growth. This is a city where the elderly have to be taught how to go to their own mailbox without getting mugged and where gangs pretty much do as they please. The smaller towns around Shreveport are wonderful. It is just probably not a good idea to live too far inside the city itself. Shreveport's health care system can hold its own against any health care community in the world, so this is a huge plus for living and retiring in the Shreveport area.
