Typical small town - 1/23/2012
Actually several unicorporated towns fall under the Gate City zipcode and I live in in a rural part of the area. I am retired military and don't have kids in school so can't comment on education first hand. Employent typically requires a short commute (short by my standards) being many people here work over in Tennessee about 15-30 minutes each way depending on where you live and work. There are some beautiful areas around here and if you like fishing and hunting you will find an abundance of wild-life. For the most part people are pretty friendly and you will still find neighbors that help one another. On the other hand it seems that as with most places now there are some bad elements drugs, petty theft and such but as far as violent crime most of what you hear is in Tennessee. And if you like to grow your own veggies be prepared, because like I said wild-life is abundant and the deer will get into your garden and quickly destroy it.
