Palmer, AK is a small town located in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley of Alaska. It is known for its lush, beautiful scenery and outdoor activities. There are several state parks nearby, as well as other attractions such as the Mushing Museum and the Tanana Valley Railroad Historical Society. People come to Palmer for fishing, cycling, camping, hiking, snowmobiling, and much more. The town also boasts unique shops and eateries that make it an enjoyable place to explore.

Palmer living - what's in it for the military fami - 4/6/2008
The first time I saw Palmer was in 1974. It's grown up from the old days of farm country complete with 4-H clubs, fields of crops and livestock. Gone are most of the farm lands, but there's still a bunch around and the 4-H is still an active part of the community.

Military families like this area because it is near the Army base of Fort Richardson and Elmendorf Air Base. For a short 35 minute drive a family can have more home, more land and peaceful living than that found closer to the bases.

Our schools are wonderful and community oriented. We are close to Target (Summer 2008), a MEGA-Walmart, Fred Meyers, Safeways, and so much more.
