I've moved to Avalon three years ago to be closer to family in Los Angeles. I was unsure about California at first because of the hot temperatures, wildfires, and cost of living but Avalon is a hidden gem! I love it here and never want to live anywhere

I've lived in Avalon since high school and I never want to leave! It's small, charming, and I've made some amazing friends here. Avalon is also close enough to the city for me to travel there on weekends with my daughter. The air quality in Avalon is way above average for SoCal (especially being near Los Angeles), but we have been getting some smoke from recent fires. I think your summary of the commuting situation in Avalon is rather misleading. The entire city is only about a mile in diameter. About half of the folks here "commute" by walking for a few minutes. If the average time it takes is eleven minutes it's because you stopped a few times to chat with someone on the way. It's often faster to walk somewhere than to drive because there is limited parking parking. You don't even mention that most people use golf carts and not actual automobiles here. It isn't even possible to bring a normal vehicle to Avalon because there is a very long waiting list for the permit (like 15+
