Good place overall - 3/10/2021
My husband and I moved here in Nov 2014 from San Bernardino and we moved here for one reason, we got an enormous house with lots of land and no neighbors for $64,200. No mortgage because cash was paid for the house so I cannot speak to mortgage or rent prices. We had never been to California City and we bought our house blindly through a realtor. We still live in Cal City today and are very happy where we live. All of the houses here are pretty much new construction. Many are being built or just recently built and lots of houses built in the 1990's-2000's. The crime is seriously based on where you live within Cal City. I highly suggest for anyone reading this and wanting to move here, make sure you don't move near any of the Section 8 apartments and check with the police department or locals about the area you're considering. At night time it's very quiet in some areas of Cal City including where I live. The street I live on, my somewhat far away neighbors are all home owners and we Read More

A wonderful choice, California City, California. - 7/30/2020
California City, CA is a wonderful diverse community that is ever growing, in population and home values.

Living here over many months and researching here over 4 years before we moved here, we find the community stable in both diversity, education and growth with welcoming neighbors of all cultures and lifestyles.

The California City police department takes a no nonsense approach out here and at the same time does not harass people just out of the blue, unless you give them some real reasons to, so in general, it's pretty calm out here.

There are plenty of great individuals that live here in California City, CA.

At 2,400 elevation, the air is very fresh, the moon lit filled nights bring light like silver to the night skies and the diamond size stars are sparklers, seems so close, one could grab a hold of one or many.

What a place to live and own your own home!

But hurry, changed recently from a Read More

Quiet areas - 2/19/2016
Living in Cal City 5+ years I can say this:
There are nicer areas than others and I lucked out. My street is quiet, have had no problems and neighbors are nice. There is crime and drugs in the town just like any other so look closely at the area before you move. I stopped at the Rite Aid the day I was here looking and showed the guy at the counter a map of the city, he pointed out the areas to avoid and I'm happy I had the foresight to do that.
I cant attest to elementary and middle schools as my kids were in HS when we moved here. I had problems with the school due to my sons surgery but others love the HS. I ended up transferring both to East Kern independent to ensure they received a HS diploma as opposed to the HS saying they would not graduate and the only option was a GED due to time lost for medical care. LOVE East Kern!
There isnt much for the kids here so I take advantage of the ROP (job training classes in Mojave) and sign them up for anything they're Read More

Hello, i'm thinking about moving to cal city so i can save money to buy a house some place else in my near future. I've read some horrible things about the place but they are pretty old. I wanted to know what it is like living there now (2014). I drove by there yesterday and i was surprised by how new it looked, and the amount of nice houses are out there. There aren't many stores that i saw but the important stuff are there... i like the lake too. At the hour i was there, the city seemed peaceful. reminds me of Atlanta, MI but with more stuff. I just want to know what living there is like. How is crime there? are there a lot of drugs and murder involved? Is there a bad area and a good area or is it all equally safe or unsafe? if so, where is the best place to live in that city? or should i just forget cal city?  Read More

California city is a great place to live, We have a very low crime rate for the county, Our officers work very hard at keeping us safe, we are quickly becoming one of the largest off-roading communities in California. with BLM becoming stricter we are more appealing to visitors on the weekends between Thanksgiving and New Years we draw about 50,000 visitors to the desert (second community) bring your family’s and your toys come ride and Read More

Home Invasion - 6/14/2010
I have lived in Cal City for 13 yrs now. It was once a safe place to live. Since they have started section 8 here, we have all kinds of riff raff moving here. I and a friend were the victims of a home invasion last week. They were dressed all in blue so I knew they were Crips. This is one of the scariest situations I have every been in. They had metal bats and a shotgun. They beat my friend pretty badly but they didn't hurt me. It doesn't matter because I could hear them beating on my friend and I was helpless to assist him. Cal City needs to root all these section 8 gang bangers out of our Read More
