Davie prides itself at being a rural/horse community and zoning laws allowing riding on sides of roads and horse paths. Keeping horses in your yard is also allowed depending on the size of your yard which should be about an acre. But Davie also has the 'other side' where lower income families live to provide the limited labor needs of Davie located near 'downtown' Davie. Broward Community College is also located in Davie as well a other university branches like Nova and magnet high schools. The pressure to 'develope'----i.e. more dense housing, people, and greater tax base is there from the lower income housing areas who want to tap into the one acre estate owners life styles with more intense business ventures that would result in more traffic pressure. Davie is next to Weston and Cooper City with Weston being the 'high end' property area and Cooper City being the low end plot community built before Davie attracted the rich yuppies to build their estates there. What's Davie FL like? - 4/5/2008
Davie 20 years ago was sleepier and a 'cowboy' oriented small town. By 2008 the individual character is eroding as Ft Lauderdale and other fast growing nearby towns surround it. The KKK used to hold sway here but the multiracial nature of Davie is much more obvious. The weather is fine, the schools are very underfunded, Davie's population is youngish and mixed with families and retirees. Traffic is becoming a nuisance but that's true everywhere nowadays. Except for hurricane possibilities (Katrina blew through here first before going over to New Orleans in 2005, and Wilma two months later devastated the place), you feel comfortable and secure. It's becoming almost cosmopolitan in fact, thanks to rock concerts, rodeos, opera, the Everglades and water sports continuously offered within a 5-10 mile radius.
