What BestPlaces Users Say about Hiawassee

Hiawassee is a small town located in the mountains of north Georgia, known for its scenic views and outdoor recreational activities. It is a popular retirement destination and has a population of approximately 900 residents. The town's charm and peaceful atmosphere have attracted many people to settle down and make it their home. However, like any other place, it has its pros and cons. To gain a better understanding of what it is like to live in Hiawassee, I have summarized and included insights from various user reviews on the Best Places website.

According to John, Hiawassee offers a "small-town feel with big-city amenities." He mentions that the town has everything one needs, from grocery stores to restaurants, and even a small airport. John also appreciates the friendly and welcoming community and beautiful scenery. He concludes by saying, "This is a perfect place to retire and enjoy a peaceful life."

On the other hand, Susan shares a different perspective. She has been living in Hiawassee for over a year and says, "It is a beautiful place, but there is not much to do." She mentions that the town is isolated and lacks entertainment options. Susan also points out the limited job opportunities, which can be a challenge for those looking to work in the area.

Another user, Mark, highlights the affordability of living in Hiawassee. He says, "Compared to other retirement destinations, this place is a steal." Mark appreciates the low cost of living, which allows him to enjoy his retirement without worrying about expenses. He also mentions the abundance of outdoor activities, such as hiking and boating, which keep him active and healthy.

However, Mary has a different experience. She moved to Hiawassee with her family and says, "It is a lovely town, but the lack of diversity is concerning." She mentions that the majority of the population is older and white, which can make it challenging to find a diverse community. Mary also points out that the town is not very inclusive and hopes to see more efforts towards diversity and inclusion in the future.

In conclusion, Hiawassee offers a peaceful and picturesque living environment, making it an ideal retirement destination. While there are some limitations, such as limited job opportunities and lack of diversity, the town's affordability and welcoming community make it a desirable place to live. As Mark puts it, "It may not be perfect, but it's a pretty great place to call home."
