Get your tour, don't live here! - 5/24/2021
I was born here at Kings Daughter Hospital. I still have family members living here. Although I haven't lived here in years, I knew the place well and keep up with Frankfort via my family. First the positive, Buffalo Trace Distillery. It might be the best bourbon distillery in the country, definitely the best bourbon! There is a reason why the population increases three times during the work hours. No one wants to live here. Get your bourbon or capital tour and then get out before night comes. Frankfort and Hopkinsville per capita are always the worst crime ridden areas in Kentucky. There was a kid down the street where I grew up killed over a video game. For some reason, the community looks up to losers constantly in and out of prison. It is a weird, unsafe, lack of hope community. Quaint City with a Slow Pace and Small Town Vibe - 11/22/2017
I have traveled all over the United States (SC, NY, FL, CO, WY, MO, OH, IN, WV). I've also traveled to other countries (Panama & Canada), and I've never been anywhere that has the same great feel as Frankfort. Everything just feels very stable, while not being boring. There's tons of interesting places to eat and shops to visit with interesting stories and crafts. The countryside is gorgeous and we have a good taste of all 4 seasons. There's plenty of hiking, fishing, boating, hunting, etc and the bourbon!!! oh yes...lol. I just love living Read More

Terrible little burg - 1/11/2017
I've lived here for 15 years. Almost all the restaurants are fast food. State government is the dominant workforce and does not pay well, so many businesses open only to close a few weeks or months later, due to lack of business. The local municipality, the Frankfort Plant Board, charges a premium for electricity, water, and Internet, and the prices climb every year or two. The Internet has been especially bad for years, but there has been some improvement with the creation of the new head-end unit in the Tanglewood neighborhood. The FPB will cut trees on your property without your permission, and is generally the worst municipal organization I have ever experienced. For a small town, traffic is very bad before and after work, as people are coming into Frankfort from Lexington and Louisville (larger, but nicer towns) and leaving after work to go back there. The town is not well-kept, and many empty storefronts loom around, with tall weeds in the median and alongside roads.  Read More
