Although housing is more expensive than most other cities in Kentucky, as are the real estate taxes it is worth it for the piece of mind and the great schools. Otherwise the cost of living is very

Quick response to what was posted. I would say her post is inaccurate except for the part about taxes. People are friendlier and more laid back than the people up north and down in fl... maybe she just had those views about the locals because she comes from further south. Many nice restaurants I frequent are out towards Prospect on the River Road area, not just near Bardstown road (my advice would be to do a little more exploring). Restaurants are BY FAR a strong point of Louisville: the number of nice restaurants here per capita is hard to beat (by nice I mean good food not necessarily overpriced). Schools here are not all great, but there are still some good ones for students who excel (e.g. three students from my graduating class went to Harvard). Oldham County which is just a little further west is a good district for schools. As far as taxes goes, she is right. A lot of our tax money leaves the city and goes to the state (we dole out more than we receive). I suppose that

Prospect, KY - General comments
- 4/16/2006
Everything is relative as the saying goes, but we transplanted here from Germantown, TN (which we loved)to Prospect, KY (suburb of Louisville). We find the people are not as friendly, the drivers are full of road rage, and the natives are very provincial and not tolerant of transplants. We are worried about the quality of the public schools, although we moved to what was written up as the best school district in the Louisville area. We make fun of the fact that all the local gourmet restaurants can be found on one road - Bardstown Rd. They are very snobbish here about how they keep the Derby tickets in the hands of the natives so they can resell them for a handsome profit to non-residents. We are taxed to death here (very high vehicle registration fees, high property taxes, TAXES on all insurance etc.) and can't quite figure out where the money is going. We will be leaving the state as soon as our daughter graduates from High
