This place is sure to give you cancer. - 6/15/2012
Lived in Monroe/West Monroe for 2 years, I deeply regret it. Here's why.

Not only is Monroe/West Monroe next to a plant that spews it's disgusting, cancerous smog, but it's water isn't even fit to drink. You will constantly get notices about how your water has something in it and needs to be boiled. Once you enter the city limits, you will smell Monroe, and you will not enjoy it.

Had a talk with the mayor about the well being of Monroe (water, the mill spewing it's disgusting, he didn't care. If you want to recycle, you have to take it to some warehouse yourself. The lack of healthy food alternatives is sparse, only one over priced health food store, locally owned.

Lack of a music scene. Culture there is Sports and outdoors, where some people try to be fancy and do these art galleries every now and then.

Lack of local cuisine. In fact, almost all of the businesses here are commercial.

We have been residents of Monroe now for two and a half years. We have enrolled our child in private education here because of low scores in public education at the local schools. After our child graduates we will be leaving this area of Louisiana for these reasons: 1.
