Pretty But Not Dynamic
- 6/24/2019
Visited here so not the perspective of a resident. On a trip to visit my brother in Grand Rapids I headed north to visit many of the places my family vacationed at in Northern Michigan wen I was growing up\. WE spent a ;lot of time in the Cheboygan, Rogers City, Black Lake areas. To this day Northern Michigan remains beautiful. What is so sad is that communities like Cheboygan have been left behind, Unemployment is high and drug use/abuse here is scary especially opiods. This town has given up in my opinion. Im an old guy and saw very few younger people in town, usually a bad indicator. Even small towns need to be vibrant, Cheboygan

The Northern Michigan town of Cheboygan is viewed by many as a slice of heaven. The local residents are exceedingly congenial and sincere in their concern for their neighbor's well-being. Not only is Cheboygan close to beautiful and historical Mackinaw Island, but also adjacent to Mackinac City and Petoskey, both of which are teeming with quality restaurants and quaint little shops. In addition, the area has several well-maintained ski resorts and numerous snow mobile trails.
My wife and I relocated to northern Michigan from Miami, Florida. South Florida has rapidly degenerated, encouraging rampant crime, massive foreclosures, & myriad scams, making Miami-Dade County more of a liability than an asset. Consequently, Cheboygan is not unlike a breath of fresh air. It truly remains a slice of

I lived most of my life this town is so phony. If you don't have a certain name in this town you haven's got a chance. Prejudice and discrimination is everywhere. Cops especially. As far ass jobs go for get it. Wal-mart seems to employ most of the people with their low wages, treat you like dirt. The mill practically closed. The industrial park is empty. Drugs are a big here from the business owners to the lawyers and kids Yup you need lots of money to live here. If we had the money to move I would get the hell out of here. By the way the schools aren't that good either. Gotta be

The REAL Cheboygan
- 6/25/2009
I am 17 years old and have lived in Cheboygan all my life. Let me tell you the real truth! Schools here are the worst, teachers hit and sware at the students on a daily bases. There is no where to hang out in town for teens! If a cop see you walking downtown and they don't like the way you "LOOK" they will ask you to leave. So they have become rebelous and try to mark up the town, in bad ways.
DRUGS~OMG everyone in Cheboygan is hooked on some kind of drugs or another. I have seen weed and pills passed around in the schools and resently found out it was a teacher that was supplying it to them!
PEOPLE~ here have there noses up in the air all the time, because they think they are better than you.
CRIME~ here is ok, we don't have mush of it but when we get it we get it big. Last year someone lit my bestfriends house on fire during the middle of the night! Thank God they all made it out of the house alive!
This is a place for OLD people who

I grew up in Cheboygan in the 50's-60's and in hindsight, I lead a very sheltered life here! It's a small town, just south of the Straits of Mackinaw, about 15 miles. I left to college, career, marry, etc...and returned to care for my ailing mother. On my return 5 years ago, I found the town to have changed little, the people to have changed little and growth to have moved into the negative. The area countryside and Great Lakes are always beautiful to come home to, but as far as having anything else to offer; there isn't much at all. Now that MI is in such a recession, it seems to get shabbier and more vacant by the month. Just to keep peace of mind (I am mobility challenged :+}), we are planning a move west, to

Cheboygan Michigan
- 3/8/2008
I have lived in Indian River (20 minutes south of Cheboygan) for 13 years and have worked in Cheboygan for the same time. The community has a lot of potential with the inland waterway going right through downtown (70 miles of navagable water), close to major attractions like Mackinaw Island and Mackinaw Bridge. I have had hopes that it would eventually experience the growth that many cities have enjoyed along the western side of the state, it has not. Sadly it continues to shrink, most of the high school graduates leave as there is little to provide them income and social entertainment. The area lacks the tourist draw, and has nearly no jobs that offer more than $14.00, in fact 60% of the children in the public schools are on some form of assistance with thier school lunch. There is lots of hunting, fishing, and trials for bikes, snowmobiles, and ORVs, as well as lots of boating both on the big lakes as well as the afforementioned inland waterway. Good for a vacation off the

Thinking of Relocating
- 7/11/2007
We are thinking about relocating to Cheboygan. Please tell us the pros and the cons of the area. I am a native of MI, but haven't lived there in 20 yrs. And have not been to the Cheboygan area in about the same amount of time. Any help would really be appreciated.
