What BestPlaces Users Say about Alton

Background Information:

Alton, Missouri is a small, rural town located in the southern part of the state. With a population of just over 900 people, it is known for its beautiful natural scenery and friendly community. However, as with any place, there are pros and cons to living in Alton. To get a better understanding of what it's like to live in this town, let's take a look at some user reviews from Best Places.

User Reviews:

- According to John D., "Alton is a great little town to raise a family in. The people are friendly and the scenery is breathtaking. It's a peaceful and safe community." This highlights one of the main positives of living in Alton - its tight-knit and welcoming community.

- On the other hand, Sarah H. shares, "There's not much to do in Alton, especially for teenagers. It can get quite boring and there aren't many job opportunities." This reflects a common concern among younger residents, as the town may not offer as many activities or job prospects as bigger cities.

- Another review from Michael W. states, "The cost of living in Alton is very affordable. I love that I can live comfortably on a lower income here." This is an important factor for those looking to save money or live on a fixed income.

- However, not all reviews are positive. As Bob S. notes, "The weather in Alton can be extreme. Summers are hot and humid, and winters can be harsh with occasional severe storms." This is important to consider for those who may not be used to the climate or prefer milder weather.

In conclusion, the majority of user reviews on Best Places about living in Alton, Missouri are generally positive. The town is praised for its friendly community, affordable cost of living, and natural beauty. However, some reviewers did mention limitations in terms of job opportunities and extreme weather conditions. Ultimately, it seems like Alton may be a great place to live for those who value a close-knit community and a peaceful lifestyle.

Now living here - 9/20/2006
Now living here and hope it never loses it quaint appeal. reminds us of the USA in the 1950's. Best move we have ever made in our lives. We are trying to sell our home in Florida and will be living here full time then. Bought 6.5 acres and home two miles from town. Such a peacefull tranquil place. The lush rolling hills are like eye candy for my soul.

Best kept secret in the USA.
Has the best, collectively speaking, air quality, water, cost of living and crime rate anywhere I researched.
