What BestPlaces Users Say about Middletown

Middletown, Pennsylvania is a small town located in Dauphin County with a population of approximately 9,500 people. It is known for its historic downtown area and close proximity to Harrisburg, the state capital. While the cost of living is relatively affordable, Middletown has a higher crime rate compared to the national average. This has led to mixed opinions among residents and visitors alike. In this summary, we will take a look at what people are saying about living in Middletown based on user reviews from BestPlaces.net.

According to user reviews on BestPlaces.net, the overall consensus among residents is that Middletown is a friendly and family-oriented community. One user, John, states: "I have lived in Middletown for over 20 years and have never had any issues with safety. The people are welcoming and it's a great place to raise a family." However, there are also concerns about the town's crime rate. Another user, Sarah, says: "I have lived in Middletown for 2 years and have witnessed several instances of petty theft and vandalism in my neighborhood. It's definitely a concern for me as a single woman living alone."

The historic downtown area is a major draw for tourists and residents alike. One user, Emily, shares: "I love the charm and character of Middletown's downtown. There are plenty of local businesses and restaurants to support, making it a great place to shop and dine." However, not all users share the same sentiment. Another user, Mark, expresses disappointment: "I was hoping for a more vibrant downtown scene, but there aren't many options for entertainment. Most people I know end up going to Harrisburg for a night out."

In terms of amenities and facilities, opinions are divided. While some users appreciate the small-town feel, others feel that Middletown lacks certain conveniences. As one user, Lisa, puts it: "Living in Middletown has its pros and cons. On one hand, it's nice to have a close-knit community where everyone knows each other. On the other hand, there aren't many grocery stores or shopping options nearby."

Overall, the reviews for living in Middletown are mixed. While many appreciate the sense of community and charm of the town, concerns about safety and limited amenities should also be taken into consideration. As one user, Alex, sums it up: "Middletown has its ups and downs, but ultimately it's a decent place to live if you value a small-town atmosphere."

Fun Stuff in Middletown - 2/22/2009
There are a not too many things to do in town. Kids Kastle is a pretty big playground that the younger children love. People can see a movie at the local movie theater- the Elks, go boating, join the swim club, or go to the Main St. Gym. Not very much but Hersheypark, two malls, and many restaurants are pretty close. There are also several places to go hiking/biking outside of Read More

Middletown, PA - 4/15/2008
I have lived in Middletown for a year, I'm 24 and recently married. We're both from SE PA.

Middletown is the town of Three Mile Island nuclear facility, that's right the one that almost had a melt down in 1979. When I first came to Middletown I thought for sure that the 450,000 people who left the central PA area post fallout, never returned. It has a general feeling of economic depression. The town has its nice parts, afterall it is the most historic town in Dauphin County. But the town feels depressed especially when visiting the local grocery store or Wal-Mart. Just about every time I have been to either I get behind someone using Food Stamps, WIC, or an ACCESS card (for those that don't know the lingo, that means they are on government assistance or Welfare, that all us hard working middle class pay into). This wouldn't be so bad if the people were genuinely unable to work, but when the lady in front is talking about lighting up a fat one while she hands the cashier Read More
