What BestPlaces Users Say about Gatesville

Gatesville, Texas is a small city located in the central part of the state. It is known for its historical sites, including the state penitentiary and the Confederate prison camp. The city has a population of around 12,500 and offers a small-town atmosphere with access to larger cities like Waco and Austin. Its cost of living is slightly below the national average, and the median home price is around $140,000. Now, let's take a closer look at what residents have to say about living in Gatesville.

According to several user reviews on bestplaces.net, Gatesville seems to be a great place to live for those who enjoy a slower pace of life and a close-knit community. One user, named Sarah, states, "I love living in Gatesville. It's a small town where everyone knows each other, and there's a real sense of community here." Another user, John, echoes this sentiment, saying, "I moved here from a big city, and I couldn't be happier. Gatesville has a charm that you just can't find in larger cities."

However, not all reviews are positive. Some residents mention the limited job opportunities in Gatesville as a downside. One user, Mary, mentions, "Finding a job in Gatesville can be challenging, especially if you're looking for something in a specific field. Many people here commute to nearby cities for work." Similarly, another user named David says, "The job market in Gatesville is not very diverse, and the pay is not as competitive as in bigger cities."

On the other hand, for those looking for a safe and family-friendly community, Gatesville seems to be a top choice. User Lisa states, "I love that Gatesville is a safe place for my family. I feel comfortable letting my kids play outside, and the schools here are excellent." Another user named Mark agrees, saying, "I moved here with my family, and we couldn't be happier. The crime rate is low, and the schools are great for our kids."

In summary, Gatesville, Texas offers a small-town atmosphere with a strong sense of community and a lower cost of living compared to other cities. While job opportunities may be limited, it seems to be a safe and family-friendly place to live. Residents appreciate the slower pace of life and the charming environment of this historical city.

Crissy's review right on the money. - 3/24/2013
Gatesville is a quiet, quaint town that fell off a Norman Rockwell painting at first glance but look harder and the scene is a bit different. The homes are dreadfully old & infact are falling apart with little care from the owners. Beauty definately comes at a cost here, not $$ as it is quite affordable if you are willing to commute between 1/2-1 hour one way, no $$ is not the issue, the issue being the people...surrounding towns will be the first to tell you of the almost "cult" like atmosphere. If you haven't been here at least 2 generations niether you or your children,(yes children) will be given any courtsey what so ever including sports, music ect. which will initially impress you with the community support of all children activitys but don't be fooled, you are NOT one of them...my children are looking forward to leaving this town where the boys are crude and vulgar most girls find that ok & few leave highschool not w/o child. The people are infact gossiping, two faced rednecks Read More

Got to love summer! - 7/7/2011
I just got back from visiting Missouri for 4 days. Anyone moving in needs to know about the weather here at night it got down to the low 90's mid80's and into the 100s during the day. In Missouri it was in the low 70's upper 60's at night and a whopping 90-95 degree high. If you are new to this area of Texas, get used to living in an oven of straight hot heat. Read More
