Property Taxes - 11/13/2010
Whitney is a very poor town but have a very nice school system. The reason their system is as good as it is, because of a gated committee named White Bluff. Very few people in White Bluff have children put pay large property taxes for the privilege of living in the Whitney school system. All I can say "thank goodness we have a vote in school bond elections"  Read More

The Simple Town with a View - 9/25/2009
Whitney is the simple but quality life. You can have a chance to make your life whatever you want it to be. Remember, Whitney is simple, low taxes, low energy, huge individual self esteem. When you are ready, we have an est. 14-1 ratio per class for your children. Many of our HS graduates received scholarships or city scholarships. Farm land is abundant if that's your future. fun Lake town for vaca not to live in - 12/3/2008
My family moved to Whitney 10 years ago because we wanted to get away from a big city. Whitney is a lake town and a tourist spot during the summer months. The population is more like 8,000-10,000 because a lot of people live outside the city limits close to Lake Whitney. It's very conservative and not a hotspot for singles.

The school system is awful so I wouldn't suggest sending your kids there. A lot of people I know put their children in Clifton schools (about 15 minutes away).

There is nothing to do in the winter and it gets really boring. It has grown rapidly in the 10 years I've lived there but it's still just a sleepy little country town. There is a Brookshire's but it takes 15 minutes to get to a Walmart (Hillsboro) and 45 minutes to reach the next decent sized city (Waco). There is a whopping total of 3 red lights and the whole town shuts down at 8-9 pm.

Overall: Fun lake, good housing prices, no traffic, decent employment Read More
