Wow...what a place - 3/27/2015
my wife and I moved to Sheboygan from McHenry County, Illinois. We are origional from rural from Wisconsin. Sheboygan has more restaurants, arts, and recreation than anywhere else we have lived. We have been here for four years (right out of college) and already we own a home, been promoted in our jobs, and will soon be having our first child. There appears to be opportunities for work everywhere you look. Newly every company is hiring.

It is difficult to imagine raising a child where we have come from. Our neighbors are approachable and real salt of the earth. We trade off snow blowing each other's sidewalks and often trade lawn and gardening tips. We have attended the local symphony at the beautiful Weill Center which is the most stunning performing arts venue I have seen. We go for regular runs through the neighborhoods and have never felt unsafe.

If you plan on moving to Sheboygan just be ready for an abundance of hidden restaurants, summers on the Read More

Great Location - 7/16/2009
Sheboygan is located on Lake Michigan, which is a great feature. The lake is scenic, provides recreation, and moderates the climate by keeping it cooler in summer and "warmer" in winter. Seasons are about 2 weeks behind because of the lake. Winters are cold from December through February, but not many days are brutally cold. Summers are hot from June through September, but not many days are brutally hot. Spring and Autumn are my favorite, though if you like hot weather, you will find them too cool for your taste. The vast majority of days have pleasant weather, and the skies are clear more often then not.

There are nice parks and nature areas in and around the city. Shopping consists of standard stores, mostly at malls, but we do have some unique shops in the downtown area. We are actually a bit limited in franchise restaurants compared to some cities, which is fine with me. We do, however, have some fantastic restaurants, unique to our city. The city infrastructure is Read More

Opportunities - 3/5/2008
For a community of relatively small size, the Sheboygan area has an abundance of cultural and recreational facilities, from state parks and forests, to world-renowned golf courses, along with a first-class library and internationally known art center. It also has a relatively low cost of living, with reasonably priced housing. On the down side, taxes are somewhat higher than many areas and the weather can be trying at times (like Read More

Still a pretty good place to live and raise a fami - 5/30/2007
I have lived in Sheboygan now almost 17 years having moved here from another state. As with any city and area there are a mix of good and not so good things about Sheboygan. Sheboygan pluses include: the Lake Michigan shoreline, scenic beauty, close to Road America racetrack, championship golf courses, boating, fishing, activities, state park, recreation, commitment to good school system, good police and law enforcement, strong employment, affordable housing, good state and county roads, moderate cost of living increases, good access to health care, professional sports in Milwaukee and Green Bay, and some cultural events. Minuses include: high property taxation, blue collar mentality, dirty coal fired powerplant, poor city roads and maintenance, dependence on manufacturing jobs for employment, poor cleanliness of streets, excessive city ordinances for minor violations, excessive public spending on private development, small town mentality including lack of concern for growth, Read More

Great place to raise a family! - 10/19/2005
I grew up in Sheboygan (and thankfully no longer live there), but it is definitely a great place to raise a family. Unfortunately there is not very much culture or entertainment in the town, but there is very little crime and good family values. Living in different parts of the country has made me realize how fortunate I was to grow up in Read More
