Review of Port St. Lucie, Florida

Port Saint Lucie 2010
Star Rating - 4/30/2010
I have been visiting PSL for 26 years. I retired last year and my wife and I moved here from R.I. We haven't been to PSL in the last 3 years but we figured that it was the same as before. BOY WERE WE WRONG!!! We are sorry we settled here and cannot wait to sell our home (Purchased 1-15-10). The DMV has a new law that rapes all out of state people that move here that are getting their licenses and plate tags. The city Hall stinks, you need a permit for everything...including a yard sale. And changes like fencing, water heater, house painting screening your "Florida room"...get a permit. Any structual changes will cost you $500-$700 (Plus permit costs), because you have to have an engineer draft those plans up! The low-life that has moved into PSL are a mixture of thieves rapists child molesters and just punks breaking into cars or homes or selling drugs. PSL is following in the footsteps of Miami and West Palm....TOO MUCH CRIME! So, if you want to get ripped off by the criminals or the city, stay in PSL. If you want to see what PSL is turning into...Take a ride up the road to Fort Pierce and take a left turn onto Avenue "D".
I think I'm stuck here for a while. I bought a house and made some improvements right after the purchase. I will never be able to get my money back....for now anyway.
To anyone thinking of living here, my advice is.... RUN FOR THE HILLS!

You are absolutely right! The PSL population increase is 85% and the town is going after every dime it can from the common folk. Permits$$ for everything except wiping your butt, and their "Gestapo" code enforcement police are even said by contractors to be "vicious". The code cops look at houses for sale and scour the history for anything not permitted, then when the house gets sold they hit the new owner with fines! Beware! Check out their televised "Special Magistrate" kangaroo court if you want to see these thieves in action. We moved here recently also and are looking forward to moving out. Yes the property taxes are low but that's because the property values are in the mud. Rental bums are moving into town by the droves, but you can't see that if you're in a "gated" community. Just drive around the center of town though or spend a Saturday doing the garage sale circuit just for kicks. The climate is nice and the townspeople I've met are nice, it's just the way the town's hierarchy treats taxpayers and small businesses that irks me.

Nice try grumpy old dude, but FACTS don't lie and the FACTS say crime is LOW and even decreased so don't blame an entire town just because of something in a specific part or because of your personal experience. Instead be factual and tell us what happened to you instead of making wide range false claims. I have NEVER been there and yet your lies are childs play for even me to see through. BTW, if you don't want to be raped on plate fees then don't be a fool and wait until tags almost expire to change to Florida. AND, my neighbor has maintained FL tags for 3 years even though living in CO because he pays less to FL and still owns rental property there to maintain FL address for tags. Finally, if you bought a house in jan '10 and made such big improvements you can't get out then who is to blame because home prices were super low in 1-2010!?!? Sounds like a fool and his money and his happiness are soon parted.
