I have lived in Cinci for 15 years, both in closer to the city (Norwood) and in the suburbs (Mason,OH). I really like it here. Probably like many other cities it is easy to find a neighborhood that you can fit in . If you are an artist, Mount Adams will work great, if you are "a professional" hippie try Hyde Park. It's got 4 Thai restaurants in a 4 square block area, an Aveda beauty salon and Birkenstock store. If you are a corporate 'upwardly-mobile' young professional that works at P&G, move up to Mason -- it has all the standard stores, restaurants and condos to fit your 'upwardly-mobile' needs.
Housing can be expensive and if you insist on staying in the city it can also be old and hard to maintain. Just move across the river in Kentucky buy the same house but new and for much much less. You'll just have to driver over the bridge every day.
