Review of Lynchburg, Virginia

Nowhere near recovering
Star Rating - 3/5/2017
In General Lynchburg does not have many opportunities. The professional occupations pay a dollar or 2 above minimum wage and then try to guilt you in to staying. Many companies have come and gone and the jobs that are replacing them are worse. There used to be a dollar theater which has closed. There also use to be another theater in the plaza area which closed about a decade ago. The major employer in the area is actually Liberty University which is extremely difficult to get a job through. There is high turnover for almost every business in the area. Some companies have fired employees and then hired them back as contractors so they could avoid paying benefits and still pay the same amount. The other major businesses in a 20 mile radius are also on the verge of closing. Harris Corporation has had a few layoffs since 2008. Genworth has closed and replaced by two other companies. The mall is on the verge of being empty and being transformed into whatever the university wants to do with it as well as the plaza area. I suggest everybody and anybody stay away from the area. There are no professional positions worth staying in the area for. Racism was prevalent in every position I have held in the area. The roads are always under some form of construction. The city layout in general is not functional with the spread of the university and there has been nothing to really mitigate the effects of the spread.
