Crime rates
According to the FBI, Alamogordo, NM is one of the safest small cities around. I am left questioning your murder and rape stats. An explanation of these numbers would be worth examining. I realize that the stats are skewed to a per 100,000 per capita calculation BUT...There have been no murders recently to add to this data nor do I find the rape numbers believable.
Violent crime in this area is rare and it usually involves gangs passing thru between El Paso and the crime mecca of the Southwest...Albuquerque.
I would appreciate your readers knowing that life in this part of the country is safe and that the ordinary person looking at some of your stats would probably wonder what is going on in such a small city. When the FBI gives us high marks and the day to day happenings on the streets say that we have a very safe city, it pains me to see stats such as yours reflect badly on what the real situation is.
Many of us in Alamogordo do not lock our doors or windows; we walk and jog the streets late at night; we drive anywhere we want without concern; our houses are relatively safe from regular break-ins(except for bored kids or wandering trru vagrants/druggies; auto theft is minor(again usually related to smugglers going to Mexico); and the overall safety of our citizens is one of the reasons why this is such a desirable area. Our public safety officers are outstanding and work very dilligently to keep our city safe for its citizens.
