Houston Climate is a Big Negative Pay attention to the low "comfort rating" Houston gets on this site: 44 is average, Houston is 24. The temperature is usually hot, and the humidity is almost always high. Even when the temp. is moderate, high humidity makes being outdoors unpleasant. There are only 2-3 days a year when I would even consider dining "al fresco". EVERYTHING is air conditioned, for a good reason. Don't even think of driving a car w/o A/C. Do not imagine that you will be turning your air conditioning off and throwing open your windows at home. I run my a/c all year round--turn it off for a few days in the winter. PLUS: it floods here. We do get hurricane weather and tropical storms. If you are coming to Houston, find out what happens in your proposed new neighborhood when it rains heavily. Is drainage adequate, or do the streets flood quickly? To sum up: Houston is a very pleasant, workable city, once you get to know it, but the climate is unpleasant most of the time.
