Vernon Hill, VA
COMMENT
Vernon Hill, Virginia; economy, education quality Quality of life is challenging based on high cost food, electric for housing, and few jobs, even for formally educated residents. Most people must travel 50 plus miles daily to go to the few jobs in larger surrounding cities. Few young couples of children find this area appealing, which resonates to low pupil count. People in general are not friendly, but most are committed to religion; Baptist. The cast system is pretty clear, among all ethnic groups. Quality of life can be improved if people were more open-minded, openhearted and willing to embrace humility and creativity; for example, community gardening, or other shared projects which builds friendships and improve the quality of life for all residents. Most people in Vernon Hill seem to fear change, or that those (outside) of their private circles cannot be trusted; consequently, this mindset is passed on to the youth. Education is about the same as anywhere else in the U.S., but needs improvement; new education board, less self-serving. Environmentally, this county city is healthy, quiet, and enriching if one is willing to learn how to live off the land and resist dependency on man-made things.
