An honest assessment from a local teenager Just like any place, Grants Pass, Oregon has it's share of pros and cons. Pros:-Perfect location. The coast, the Redwoods, Crater Lake, the Oregon Caves, etc. are all within a two-hour drive-Low property tax-Low crime rate. This is not too say that certain parts of town shouldn't be avoided, nor is it implying that you should abandon common sense and leave your valuables unlocked. However, the chances of a crime occurring are very low-Very cannabis friendly (this can also be considered a con, since the smell can get pretty overwhelming)-Plenty of outdoor activities. Hiking, kayaking, whitewater rafting, etc. are all very popular-Small town atmosphereCons:-Wildfires are very common in the area, especially during the summer. When they occur, the entire valley fills up with smoke, which can be difficult for someone with breathing problems-Drug abuse is very common-Housing costs can be very high-The local police department is severely underfunded, and police response can be a little slow in the event a crime does occur-As with most small towns, shopping is pretty limited. Fred Meyer, Walmart, Winco, etc. are the big name stores here. Most people prefer to make the 30-minute commute to Medford to do their shopping instead-Grants Pass has an unfortunate history of racial tension. It, like many towns in southern Oregon, was a
