Not so much I lived in Mount Vernon through the 1990s, moved to Columbus until 2013, and am currently stranded in Mount Vernon. Most of Mount Vernon is well maintained and pretty, but I grew up in this county in the 1970s knowing that any drug available anywhere else was available here. Mount Vernon has its share of crime (in proportion to population) but no TV station to publicize it. My biggest issue with Mount Vernon is that professionalism is mostly unknown here. It's always amateur hour. The "transit" service is basically a mismanaged shuttle with many annoying aspects. Zanesville had better transit thirty years ago when I spent a month there. The drivers and dispatchers here are relatively good for people so underpaid, but management lacks any qualification except local connections. The hospital has good marketing and a useful helipad, but the reality is that good doctors do not stay here. There are always a few around, but it's a changing cast. Those who stay are either locals tied to the area or doctors who can't find a better place to go. Most aspects of life resemble those. If the people in charge didn't go to school with you, they're probably not interested in you. Even if they are, don't count on them doing a job well.
