Friendly, safe, convenient but...
We recently sold our family home of 20+ years in Potomac, MD and moved just down the road to Gaithersburg. We have nothing but good things to say about the people (friendlier than Potomac), the convenience (everything one needs is nearby, from grocers to doctors, dentists, stylists, and shops), and the diversity of neighborhoods and people.
As with most of Maryland near the DC area the cost of living is above the national average, with taxes being a major drawback. We love the area but be prepared to pay a premium for having it all at your fingertips.
