Barrington, RI I've lived in Barrington, RI since 2002 and I can tell you that the previous poster is obviously a hater. I've lived in Chicago, IL; Evanston, IL; Cambridge, MA; Medford, MA; and several other places around the country. I've also traveled quite extensively around the world. Now with that in mind, please read on... The town of Barrington, RI has a lot to offer, especially to families with children. Barrington has the best school district in Rhode Island. The High School is a Blue Ribbon school and rated among the best in the country. The town has three elementary schools (grade K-3), another school for grades 4th and 5th, and a middle school (grade 6-8). All of these schools are consistently rated as high performing (in national comparison studies). Barrington sits on Narragansett Bay. It has two public beaches, a newly renovated library, an awesome playground, access to a 50 mile bike trail, etc. The downtown area has an eclectic group of stores from children's boutiques to a major food chain. There are several banks, two toy stores, a Staples, two major chain pharmacies, an Ace hardware, an Ann Taylor Loft, a Starbucks, etc. The town's center has many restaurants, including a bistro, and a couple of fine dining establishments. Barrington is home to The Daily Scoop, and ice cream parlor which serves premium hand made ice cream, by far the best I've ever tasted (Ben and Jerry's pales in comparison). Also, The Rhode Island Country Club is situated on Nayatt Road in Barrington overlooking the bay area. Barrington is only a 15-20 min. drive to Providence, an hour away from Boston, and 4-5 hours to NYC. I can't think of a more idyllic or a better place to live! Yes, taxes are high, but you get your money's worth!
