Life is what you make of it
First off, Fitchburg is not a bad place to live. If you want an urban feel with a country setting this is a great place. If you don't like new england winters, bad place.
It has a great deal of conveniences and the cost of real estate is much more affordable than surrounding towns and areas. With that said, its still part of Taxachussetts.
There are some very rough neighborhoods and some beautiful ones. Fitchburg is like a bowl and as you move out from the center, the value of property goes up.
There has been a recent increase in the Spanish population, and as a teacher, I know that is difficult for many people to handle the rapid change in culture. Doesn't matter where you live, some people will disappoint you, but others may surprise you in a wonderful way.
I teach in Fitchburg, I live in Fitchburg, and I enjoy Fitchburg. Its a beautiful city, with lots to offer and a great cultural backing. Its not for everyone, and my biggest Issue is too many residents complain. I say, if you are an unhappy person, you can move and will still be unhappy.
